GUIDELINES FOR SUBMISSION OF ARTICLES TO VAASTU

We hope this message finds you well. We are delighted to invite you to contribute to our upcoming
magazine issue “Vaastu: Tracing the Footprints”

We kindly request that your submission aligns closely with the overarching theme, offering a
thoughtful exploration of the intricate connections between the historical foundations of
architecture, its contemporary manifestations, and its potential trajectories in the future.

Additionally, we would greatly appreciate it if your contributions adhere to our prescribed


guidelines, ensuring that your insights are presented in a formal and scholarly manner that
resonates with our readership. We eagerly anticipate your valuable contribution and look forward
to the enriching perspective you will bring to our publication.

GUIDELINES
1. Include a brief author biography highlighting your expertise in the field of architecture
2. Provide captions for all figures, tables, and illustrations included in the submission.
3. Ensure that all sources are cited accurately and follow a consistent citation style.
4. Kindly ensure the inclusion of an abstract and conclusion in your submission, aligning with our
magazine's theme and guidelines.
5. Please note that the suggested word count for your submission is between 1000 to 1,500 words
on average, with a maximum limit of 2,000 words
6. Please remember to include a comprehensive list of references at the end of your submission to
support the validity of your research and insights.
7. We encourage you to supplement your submission with relevant charts, graphs, or other essential
graphics where necessary to enhance the visual appeal and comprehensiveness of your
contribution.
8. Please ensure the inclusion of high-quality images and graphics to complement your submission,
contributing to the overall visual appeal and elucidation of your insightful content.
9. Provide any necessary permissions or copyright information for previously published images or
content, if applicable.
10. Adhere to the designated submission deadline and communicate any potential delays in
advance.
11. The Editorial board of Vaastu-14th Issue reserves the option to edit text, as deemed necessary,

CORRELATING TO THE THEME
Note: The sub-topics and questions mentioned below are meant to act as a guide of what the
theme encompasses and is trying to convey. The articles and work you submit don't have to be
limited to the questions mentioned below.

“TRACING THE FOOTPRINTS"


The ‘14th Issue of Vaastu’ is scheduled to be published by the first month of 2024, encompassing
the theme, ‘Tracing the Footprints’, where a journey of exploration and discovery will be made,
connecting past, present, and future through the lens of architecture and innovation. Here Tracing
suggests a deliberate and careful examination or expiration while “Footprint” implies a mark or
impression left behind. In this edition we have set on to explore different stages of time, connecting
ourselves with the relics of the past to the ambitions of the future.

We kindly request that your submission aligns closely with the following themes within short
variations.

a. Your experience of architecture. Your first inspiration for architecture. (Which films/books
have influenced/inspired your architectural understanding/ perspective? What books/
movies inspired our famous architects?)
b. Your favorite architectural style/ era of Architecture.
c. Design thinking. (Design thinking by professionals. How do you design? How has your
designing process evolved?)
d. What inspires you in architecture? What serves as your principal source of inspiration
during periods of creative impasse or at the inception of the design process?
e. Your initial expectations vs. actualities as a dedicated student.
f. Your favorite architecture and its evolution over time.

1. Your views on architecture


a. Internship/apprenticeship and their roles in passing down architectural philosophies.
b. Influence in architecture from past to present: nature, religion, politics and philosophy
from ancient times to present day)
c. Impact of politics in architecture (There are clear distinctions in the architecture during
different political eras of each country. How and why do you think politics deeply affects
architecture?)
d. Kathmandu’s case for a sleepless city (Will changing the work schedule impact the urban
traffic burden of the city)
e. Dystopia in a box(Development of Dystopian architecture in modern cities where life is
reduced to a room)
f. Multicultural architecture (about any place you want) demonstrating how a place has been
defined and developed about it.
g. Indirect impact of Architecture (how has architecture been making an average person's
life easier and how might it be used to solve human problems in the future?)
h. Architecture besides building (how in the past has architecture been used aside from
designing a building or structure? And are there any innovative ways to use the knowledge
of architecture in the near future?)
i. A city for the people: How to design walkable cities?
j. Architecture: functional aspect vs. artistic expression
k. Architecture as a vehicle for tourism
l. The LINE, Does Tourism Demand a Mega Structure?

3. Architecture of the Past:


a. Role of Architecture in conserving the culture and tradition of a place.
b. Integration of traditional spaces in modern architecture. ( How the architecture of the past
has found its way into modern design- such as traditional sloped roofs in modern hotels,
courtyards in apartments)
c. Adaptive reuse of the buildings (Should the old buildings be demolished, preserved or
reused in a new fashion?)

4. Architecture of today:
a. Smart Cities: Technological Advancements or Invasion of Privacy?
b. Change in perception/ perceived value /use of a built environment. (How has the meaning
of a built space changed over time?)
c. Darahara Reconstructed: A monument or a stain on our Heritage?
d. A building that burns your soul from sheer existence. A critic of design.
e. Sustainable Architecture: the historical roots of sustainable design principles and explore
how they are being integrated into modern architectural projects, considering their potential
impact on future architectural trends and practices.

5. Architecture of the future:


a. Architecture in future: your views Influence of AI in architecture (Will Artificial
Intelligence Replace Architects?)
b. Evolution of Building and construction technology. Building technology of the future. The
Case for Public Modular Housing ( How can prefabricated elements be integrated into
social housing in Today's Society )

d. Modernization of traditional architectural elements.
e. Integration of nature and its elements in the context of contemporary design.
f. Evolution of iconic architectural materials over time. What role do you see traditional
materials playing in the future of sustainable architecture?
