CS1311A Lab Exercise 7 – MS Excel

1. You are required to provide quarterly sales for M Tuck Shop with the assumption
that each month the quantity for each item is the same and all products are

successfully sold every month. Type the data below in a new Microsoft Excel
workbook as it is, including all the formatting.

2. Save the file as YYY_Lab7, where YYY is your student number. Rename the sheet
to M Tuck Shop Sales.
3. Apply data validation throughout the columns D to G such that amounts allowed
should be in the range R0.00 – R10 000.00. Input message should be: Amounts
be in the range R0.00- R10 000.00 and Error message should be: Please enter
amount in the range R0.00 – R10 000.00.
4. Type Average in A8 and calculate average cost price in C8.
5. The profit for January, February and March is 5%, 15% and 12% of the cost price
respectively. Calculate the sales in each month. Note: sales for each month=
Quantity*(Cost Price + Profit).
6. The profit for April is 7.5% of average cost price. Calculate the sales for April using
the same formula in 5) above. Apply absolute cell reference.
7. Type minimum in cell A9 and then find the minimum quantity in B9.
8. Type “January sales (Quantity<50)”in A10. In D10, use SUMIF function to
calculate total January sales where quantity is less than 50.
9. Insert a blank row between Wine gum and Average.

10. Sales growth is the difference between sales in April and sales in January divided
by 100. Type Sales Growth in H2 and then calculate sales growth for each product.
Format these as percentages.
11. Sales growth is Good if it is greater than 50%, otherwise it is Bad. Type Comments

in I2 and then use IF function to calculate Good and Bad sales for each product.
12. Apply conditional formatting such that Sales Growth less than 50% are
formatted as follows:
- Font color: Red
- Pattern style: 6.25%Gray
13. Sort data in descending order by sales growth.
14. Insert a 2-D clustered column chart in the same sheet using columns Product
Name, January Sales, February Sales, March Sales and April Sales, which should
have the following:
a) Appropriate chart type and columns selected.
b) Chart title which should be linked to table title.
c) Legend at the bottom.
d) Axis title as “Products” for horizontal title axis and “Amounts” for
vertical title axis.
15. Insert a 3-D pie chart using Product Name and January Sales columns. The chart
should have the following:
a) Appropriate Chart title
b) Legend at the top.
c) Data labels showing percentage values and product names.
16. Insert all borders on your data set.
17. Save all changes.
