The symposium focused on how mesoscale ocean eddies can affect air-sea

interactions and thus weather and climate. The presenter's research in

understanding ocean vortex dynamics and variability, including theoretical analysis
and numerical simulation, is also presented. In particular, she presents the eddy
current automatic detection tracking method and eddy current energy analysis
framework that she developed, and applies the methods discussed to the study of
eddy currents on climate and ecosystems.

I learned ( one part of the lecture) :

(1) There are two main mechanisms for the influence of ocean mesoscale vortices on
ocean surface wind speed: first, the vertical mixing mechanism of vertical
momentum flux by changing the stability of atmospheric boundary layer; The second
is the pressure adjustment mechanism based on SLP change.

(2) The combined effect of mesoscale vortices in a certain region can change the
baroclinic energy conversion in the atmosphere, thus affecting the storm track and
the position of its downstream jet stream, which will affect the convective activity in
the outer tropical region and influence the weather pattern in the downstream
region by teleconnection. In addition, the atmospheric response to mesoscale
vortices will feed back into the strength of ocean currents, which will have climate
effects by altering the large-scale circulation.
