PHILIPPINE DRUG LAWS

RA 3720 “Foods, Drugs, Medical Devices and


Cosmetics Act”. This Act aims to ensure safe and
good quality of food, drugs and cosmetics and to
regulate their production, sale and distribution in
order to protect public health.
RA 6675 “Generics Act”. An Act to Promote,
Require and Ensure the Production of an Adequate
Supply, Distribution, Use and Acceptance of
Drugs and Medicines Identified by their Generic
Names.
RA 8203 “Act Prohibiting Counterfeit Drugs”.
An Act Prohibiting Counterfeit Drugs Providing
Penalties for Violations and Appropriating Funds
Therefor. This Act, consisting of 14 sections, aims
at protecting human and animal health through
provisions against counterfeit drugs.
RA 7394 “Consumers Act”. The law anchored on
the basic policy of the state to protect the interests
of the consumer, promote his general welfare and

to establish standards of conduct for business and
industry.
RA 6425 “Dangerous Drug Act of 1972”. This
Act, consisting of 101 sections, provides for
importation of Dangerous Drugs and/or Controlled
Precursors and Essential Chemicals.
RA 9165 “Comprehensive Dangerous Drug Act
of 2002”. This Act, consisting of 101
sections, provides for importation of Dangerous
Drugs and/or Controlled Precursors and Essential
Chemicals. It establishes offences and penalty
according to the different dangerous drug,
regardless of the quantity and purity involved.
RA 9502 “Cheaper and Quality Medicines Act”.
It is the policy of the State to protect public health
and, when the public interest or circumstances of
extreme urgency so require, it shall adopt
appropriate measures to promote and ensure
access to affordable quality drugs and medicines
for all.

RA 5921 “Pharmacy Law”. This Act provides for
and shall govern (a) the standardization and
regulation of pharmaceutical education; (b) the
examination for registration of graduates of
schools of pharmacy and (c) the supervision,
control and regulation of the practice of pharmacy
in the Philippines.
RA 7581 “Price Act”. It provides protection to
consumers by stabilizing the prices of basic
necessities and prime commodities during periods
of calamity, emergency or widespread
manipulation.
Ra 8172 “Asin Law”. The law seeks to eliminate
iodine deficiency disorders by mandating all salt
producers and manufacturers to iodize their
product.
RA 8976 “Food Fortification” mandates the
fortification of flour with Vitamin A and iron,
sugar with Vitamin A, cooking oil with Vitamin A
and rice with iron

RA 9211 “Tobacco Regulation Act”. is an
omnibus law regulating smoking in public places,
tobacco advertising, promotion and sponsorship,
and sales restrictions, among other requirements.
RA 9994 “Senior Citizens Act of 2010”. An Act
granting additional benefits and privileges to
senior citizens
RA 10754 “An Act of Expanding the Benefits
and Privileges of Persons with Disability
(PWD)”.to provide persons with disability the
opportunity to participate fully into the
mainstream of society by granting them at least
twenty (20%) discount and exemption from the
value added tax on the sale of certain goods and
services.
EO 51 “Milk Code” aims to protect and promote
breastfeeding and to ensure that breast milk
substitutes and supplements are properly used with
adequate information, marketing and distribution.

AGENCIES
The Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency
(PDEA) is responsible for the efficient law
enforcement of all provisions on any dangerous
drugs and/or precursors and essential chemicals.

The Dangerous Drugs Board (DDB) plans and


formulates policies and programs on drug
prevention and control.

Department of Health (DOH). It is responsible


for ensuring access to basic public health services
to all Filipinos through the provision of quality
health care and regulation of providers of health
goods and services.

Food and Drug Administration (FDA). It is
responsible for protecting the public health by
assuring the safety, efficacy, and security of human
and veterinary drugs, biological products, medical
devices, our nation's food supply, cosmetics, and
products that emit radiation.
