How Technology Changed Society

Technological advancements have significantly transformed the society. One notable change

is the continuous progress in automation and artificial intelligence. Automation has increased in

many industries due to robotics and artificial intelligence integration. The nature of work has

changed due to these developments, with routine tasks becoming increasingly automated

(Anderson et al., 2017). Secondly, the evolution of communication and collaboration, propelled

by technological innovations, represents another significant societal change. Cloud-based

solutions, video conferencing tools, and collaborative platforms have become essential

components of professional communication for smooth collaboration across geographic

boundaries.

Invention of Television

The development of television brought a new way in which the people of America organized

themselves. Television has seen families come together around a common source of information

and entertainment, which created a shared cultural experience. It made the country's culture more

cohesive while creating room for various subcultures that catered to particular interests (TED

Talk, 2018). Television became a potent tool for political communication, influencing elections,

and forming public opinion. Its impact on purchasing decisions through advertisements was

crucial in promoting consumer culture. The expansion of the television industry itself shaped

social norms and values.

Invention of Automobiles and Mobile Phones

The introduction of automobiles and cell phones has significantly increased personal

opportunities. Besides revolutionizing transportation and boosting employment in manufacturing

and related industries, the widespread use of cars has also increased mobility, enabling people to

access jobs, healthcare, and educational opportunities. Concurrently, mobile devices have

revolutionized communication by providing instantaneous connectivity. Along with helping the

technology and telecom industries, this has made information more accessible and increased

flexibility and economic opportunities. These developments have significantly impacted people's

lives and work, making personal and professional goals more accessible and interconnected.

How it shaped social relations

In the last few decades, social relationships in the US have changed significantly. Family

structures have evolved. Gender roles have changed due to women's greater participation in the

workforce, which has changed the makeup of households. There is an increasing prevalence of

intergenerational independence. The women's rights movement has impacted workplace

dynamics and challenged traditional norms, advancing relationships between men and women

(Films Media Group, 2006). A significant factor in reshaping white-non-white relations, bringing

about legal changes, and heightened awareness of systemic racism was the Civil Rights

Movement in the middle of the 20th century.

How technology affects my life

Technology has impacted many aspects of my life. Two prominent examples are how it has

revolutionized healthcare and communication. A global revolution in communication has been

realized from technological developments, enabling instantaneous communication through

platforms such as social media, messaging apps, and email. Furthermore, video conferencing

tools are crucial for interpersonal relationships and remote work (Anderson et al., 2017). From

the reasons above, technology does, in fact, largely contribute positively to the improvement of

human experiences and capacities.
