Paper I: Stem Cell Research Methodology

Note: - Set four questions from each section, for 10 marks each. Candidates should attempt
any five, by selecting at least any two questions from each section.
Section A
Introduction to research methodology, types of research, key steps in research, tools of research,
Introduction to literature collection, its importance and sources, preparing a research report, types
of research reports, and their components, Research designs and hypothesis, basic principles of
research designs, laboratory safety, animal handling.
Section B
Virtual experimental data analysis
Introduction tovirtual experimentation, Experimentation on stem cell transfection, Planning
experiments to demonstrate transcriptional regulation, epigenttic regulation, non genomic
regulation.

Section B

Advances in Stem cells and Tissue engineering:


Basic biology of stem cells; Types & sources of stem cell with characteristics: Embryonic, adult,
haematopoetic, fetal, cord blood, placenta, bone marrow, primordial germ cells, cancer stem cells,
induced pleuripotent stem cells.Applications of stem cells, GMP facility, Biomaterials and their
properties and applications, Biologically Active scaffold based on tissue engineering, their
properties and applications, Industrial approach to stem cell & tissue engineering: Introduction,
bioreactors in stem cells and Tissue engineering, Regulations & Ethics: Ethics in use of stem cell,
regulatory bodies for use of engineered biomaterial for human need.
