After completion of your Technology course at Uganda Christian University, you get
employed at Yongton International as the network administrator for this medium sized
company with a growing network infrastructure. Yongton International wants to implement
VLANs to improve network segmentation and security. The network now consists of five
departments: Sales, Marketing, IT, HR, and Finance, each with four PCs. Additionally, you
need to create a Management VLAN for the network administrator.

Execute the following instructions to demonstrate knowledge of Local Area

computer Networking.
1. Open Cisco Packet Tracer and create a network topology with a Layer 2 switch.
2. Connect PCs to the switch, representing the Sales, Marketing, IT, HR, and Finance
departments. Each department should have four PCs.

3. Configure the switch to create VLANs for each department: Sales, Marketing, IT, HR,
and Finance. Assign appropriate VLAN IDs and names.
Sales Department VLAN:
VLAN ID: 10
Network Address: 192.168.10.0/24
Marketing Department VLAN:
VLAN ID: 20
Network Address: 192.168.20.0/24
IT Department VLAN:
VLAN ID: 30
Network Address: 192.168.30.0/24
HR Department VLAN:
VLAN ID: 40
Network Address: 192.168.40.0/24
Finance Department VLAN:
VLAN ID: 50
Network Address: 192.168.50.0/24
4. Assign the switch ports to the respective VLANs according to the department they
belong to.
5. Create a Management VLAN for the network administrator and assign it a VLAN ID:
Management VLAN:
VLAN ID: 60
Network Address: 192.168.60.0/24
6. Ensure that the network administrator's PC is connected to the Management VLAN.
7. Test the configuration by ensuring that devices within the same department's VLAN can
communicate but devices in different VLANs cannot.

Ensure that you document the configuration settings, provide the necessary VLAN IDs,
port assignments, and network addresses in your response. This exercise will help you
practice setting up VLANs in a simulated network environment with multiple departments,
PCs, and a separate Management VLAN for the network administrator.
