manually or with a rolling machine. The mandrel and cloth is then heated to predetermined temperatures so that the
resins liquify and bind together. Where the cloth finishes is ridge of resins which is called the backbone. The blank will

How to Bind Guides
Simple wrapping tools
Fuji and Speed make simple Rod Wrapping stands to allow a basic rod wrapping bench to be set up.
- Position two stands on a piece of wood about 500mm long. - If small repair work is to be undertaken it is sufficient to
simply use two books to pass thread through to tension as
- Place three long screws onto the wooden stand to hold three
different colour thread ( more colours more screws) you bind.
- Place thread onto screws and hold firm with a small spring if
required.
- Place small eyelet opposite the thread holders to pass
thread through

Decorative Butt Wraps
Decorative butt wraps can enhance the appearance of your custom rod.
Rod wrapping stands are ideal for this. Other tools needed are scissors, tape and pre-cut loops of wrapping thread to
finish wraps.

Finishing
Finishing the rod you have built is the final stage in completing your custom rod. It is important to finish your rod
correctly to achieve the best results.
To achieve best results you will need a slow rotating rotisserie motor such as the Fuji or Speed Rod rotisserie available
through Frogleys Offshore as well as Fuji or Speed Rod drying rollers or a simple card board box with triangular cuts to
hold the rod while drying.
A two part epoxy is always desirable as a finish. Erskine epoxy 3337 professional rod finish or Fish hawk rod finishing
epoxy will get the best results. These epoxy’s are easy to apply, have a flexible finish and do not discolour in harsh
conditions.
STEP 1. Position your drying rotisserie and stands to fully STEP 2. Make sure the Guides and Tip are in correct

excess. Any air bubbles will disappear with a small amount
of heat.

FUJI Tag Information
When building a rod it is critical to get the information our to
your customers that it has been built using the best available
components, that is why Fuji have developed a range of rod
tags to place on the rod to help identify that your masterpiece
contains Fuji and what type of Fuji guides.
A Fuji tag is supplied free and is a important part of your
finished product for sale.

To release guide tangles, the tangle needed to be moved up and over the tip of the guide,
otherwise line simply pulls tight.
After the line tangle has moved to the top of the guide.
Fuji discovered the reason the tangle gets stuck on the guide
bridge is that the bridge is thinner than the ring, which stops the
tangle moving over the top of the ring so t designed a new bridge
that starts beside the ring and extends slowly allowing line to slide
over the guide. Occasionally the loop still gets stuck at
the tip of the guide and a tangle remains.
To solve this occasionally tangle with the new design, FUJI researched and designed prototypes and discovered that arching the
bridge further forward would stop almost 100% of tangles. The final adjustment was made and the anti-tangle K structure was born.
K structure have proven to work for multiple different tangles and is applicable
for not only the butt guide, but other guide applications.
These three K guides have revolutionised the concept of sloped tangle free guides and proven its tangle free function by offering greater
average casting distance with less line wrapping tangles than any other guide previously across all line types, braid, mono fluorocarbon
In addition, the bait caster research was conducted finding that the KW and KT guides have the
ultimate level of performance including anti tangle functions for this style of fishing rod
when compared to conventional and prototype guides.
Recently, KL-H, KL-M, KL-L, KB and RV for FUJI’s new guide theory, KR Concept. K Series guides
with K Structure total 9 models with the evolution to continue.

The bigger the tension, the more load transfers from the
tip towards the butt section as the rod tapers. Same applies
to the guides so stronger guides are required where the
load is greatest, at the butt end. A double foot guide is
recommended in KR Concept as they can withstand the
pressure and distortion.
The main stress comes on the belly section which is located between the butt guides and the tip section. This guide is

same as the tip section guides.

SiC has been the highest quality ceramic ring available since 1981. The newly
developed TORZITE ceramic is thinner and stronger allowing for a thinner ring in
a more perfect shape.
The strength of TORZITE allows ultra thin and ideal shaped ring
The stronger, ultra thin material maintains impact strength equal to SiC.
TORZITE 29
By creating a thinner ring, guide weight is reduced and
ring diameter is larger
TORZITE ring weight is 40% less than SiC and the total Titanium guide
weight is 10% less by using this new thinner ring. The inner ring diameter
is also 15% larger than SiC.
The Titanium TORZITE allows the ring to be one size smaller compared to SiC ring under size 12. By downsizing,
total guide weight and therefore rod weight has reduced. More importantly, the tip section is also lighter increasing
sensitivity when compared to SiC.
30 TORZITE
Weight comparison with TORZITE spec and SiC spec guides
in the K-R Concept arrangement on a 9ft rod
Combination of ring shape and new ceramic surface with offer the best protection and least friction on the line
The gently rounded surface of the new TORZITE creates a contact point double the length of SiC spreading the load
and reducing the pressure on the line to half that of SiC.
TORZITE 31
TORZITE’s rounder shape and smoothness dramatically improves friction performance, line release and drag
and retrieve performance.
As a cast is made, line is released from a spinning reel in a spiral while baitcast is wavy but almost
straight. The line touches the inside of the ring at a point. TORZITE’s low friction enhances line
release through the guides.
TORZITE’s wide contact point lowers contact pressure and reduces frictional heat dramatically in addition to having
exceptional smoothness. TORZITE’s heat dissipation is second only to SiC.
The rounded shape of TORZITE maintains line properties and reduced flat spots keeping the line at its optimum shape.
Under pressure line can flatten on one side creating a curled look and reducing its effectiveness. This curled line is the major cause of line failure.
32 TORZITE
TORZITE ceramic ring material designed for Fuji has high density and highly bonded crystals which maximise
abrasion resistance. The low line pressure ad surface smoothness combine with hardness to provide equal
abrasion resistance to SiC.
TORZITE 33
Downsized guides on belly and tip section in comparison to SiC rod recipe. Same line
weights can be used due to the larger diameter inside ring on TORZITE with an end
product that is lighter improving sensitivity.

The KR Concept is based on smaller diameter guides, reducing weight on the belly and tip section of the
rod and increasing feel and using the step choking system by keeping the line closer to the blank. The newly
developed TORZITE ring is available in the KR Concept. A group of tips guides of the same size, titanium frame
and TORZITE ring makes the rod lighter and enhances other rod capabilities such as sensitivity and balance.
Ring sizes are the same outside diameter as SiC, however, line travels more smoothly
thanks to the larger inside diameter of TORZITE greatly increasing casting distance.
A thicker line can also be used compared to a SiC installation.
Downsized guides can be used on the belly and tip section compared to SiC guides due
to the larger inside diameter of TORZITE. This reduces weight and improves sensitivity.
Three choking guides quickly choke the line spiral making it flow into the belly
guides allowing a group of small guides on the tip section, reducing total guide weight.
Improved sensitivity and balance are achieved.
The combination of three choking guides and a tall belly guide placed after the third
choker make the line flow smoother, choking the line without excessive stress and make
the line flow into a group of smaller guides on the tip section. This increase casting
distance by reducing line slap and works with monofilament and braided lines.

FUJI’s ideal shape reel seat for accurate casting.
Spinning reel seat with ergonomic body and hood lock up.
Lure casting requires accurate casting. Inaccuracy reduces fishing effectiveness, so FUJi developed this
new reel seat to improve accuracy of both overhead and side casting. In addition, FUJI, with their unique
style also transferred blank touch structure into this spinning seat. TVS is the result of extensive grip
studies and offers the best grip feel and ensures the best fishing results.
REEL SEATS 43
Today, evolution of - The PTS or Palming Trigger Seat is a through blank design perfect
for baitcaster outfits for bass, light jigging and light boat rods improving accuracy and
sensitivity.
Wide and flat shape provides good hold and ease of use
With its flat shape to improve grip hold, the PTS features a redesigned trigger to reduce stress
when holding the reel seat and also enables a comfortable palming position. This means that
the wrist is relaxed allowing for greater control with the through blank design adding feel.

REEL SEATS 47
The ring size for standard KR Concept bait casters is perfect but for finesse outfits, we adopted a two guide choking system.
When casting, line comes off a spinning reel in a spiral, but straight out of a bait caster where there can still be some effect from
the wound line or the wind. The most important factor in casting is to pass the line smoothly from the level wind to the belly
guide. By examining a wide range of reels, we matched the height of the choking guide to the level wind.
We tested various ring sizes and guide frames all with double foot frames for
strength. Testing across a range of line weights and casting conditions we found
high back ring size 6 and frame height close to KW10 had the longest casting
distance when mounted backwards.
When downsizing the ring with the existing guide frame, the space between the two
bridges holding the ring also becomes smaller. When mounted facing forward, the
line hits the bridge causing friction and reducing casting efficiency. If you spread the
bridge in the existing frame, the line still tangles.
Casting with the reverse designed frame, the line is choked before it passes through
the bridge reducing friction drastically. We also improved the high back ring size 6 by
adjusting the angle of the ring and form of the bridge creating a tangle free design. The
frame length has also been shortened reducing frame weight. The RV 6 is not simply
a reversed standard guide. It has been designed after months of testing and research.
48 RV GUIDE
The role of the second choking guide is to create a smooth flow of line from the level wind, through
the RV6 guide. Under testing KW guide 5.5 size showed good performance and the second choking
guide, but we tested further and developed a KW size 5 bringing a new guide placement for finesse
bait casters.
Guide placement with the combination of Rv6 and KW5 on the butt section offers super lightweight,
optimum size and height and shortest foot length enhancing the natural action of the blank. All guides
are the tangle free design available in ultra lightweight and ultra slim TORZITE ring with Titanium frame.
Please do not reverse RV guide as it will not work as a forward facing guide.

The combination of a high performance “Concept Frame” and “improved hard ring” has revolutionised the
middle ground in rod components making new design feature introduced at the higher end, available at the
lower end of components. FUJI have added sloped frame and straight stand up guides to the L guide frame.
Sloped frame guides are good for reducing tangles in braided lines.
Deep pressed frame enables guide to be light and strong.
This new guide series is “Concept O”.
POT HGOT
50 CONCEPT O
Conventional frame construction supports the ring at one
point on the frame, so the ring is dependent on the frame
thickness for strength. The new concept deep-pressed frame
secures a ring on a thinner frame by use of a redesigned
construction resulting in a full epoxy contact between the
ring and frame. This design reduces draw, twist and bend
and saves weight through its lightness resulting in a more
responsive rod.

CORK AND CARBON TUBE ARBORS
CARBON TUBES
Carbon Tubes come in 5 different carbon patterns / colours. These tubes are made specifically for each Fuji reel seat. T are
designed so you use the tube under the seats and then attached the tube / seat to the blank either using traditional method or
cork arbors designed to fit the tubes.
By using Carbon Tubes you can easily get that exposed blank feeling and look of the high end rods without having to have a
blank that exactly fits the reel seat, making the new reel seats now a universal fit with the carbon tubes.

CORK AND CARBON TUBE ARBORS
CORK TUBES
Cork arbors can be used in every Fuji Reel seat made as well as the inside of a carbon tube, these arbors give you better
feeling through the blank, make building the rod easier and the end result is a reel seat that won’t twist on the blank if the tape
gives away. Below is the range of arbors we have in stock.
Cork Arbors comes in packs of 2 and the I/D is in increments of 0.5mm, the O/D is designed specifically to fit each reel seat or
carbon tube so there is a range of types as below, you order based on reel seat and the blank diameter.

FUJI THREAD
Fuji worked closely with Anglers resource to develop a unique wrapping thread made of specialised polyester that accepts finish beautifully
and importantly resists UV, aging and abrasion better than nylon. Polyester is the number one thread choice for any outdoor application in
the marine industry for its ability to withstand harsh environments such as salt water, and scorching UV rays.
Fuji Ultra Poly brings a bright colourfast finish to any rod building project and thanks to high tech manufactoring process where dye is
computer controlled and digitally measured you can count on consistant colours from spool to spool.
Available in regular, ULTA (requiring no colour preserver to maintain its colour) and Metalics in A and D thread thickness and 100m and 1oz
spools.
