To make new bellows for a cuckoo clock:

1 Measure length and width of one side of bellows block. Add the two numbers together and
multiply by two. Use this number in 3, below.

2 Measure the maximum distance the bellows will open (typically the same as the width of the
blocks) and the width of the small end (thickness of the two blocks held together).

3 On the bellows paper (or a separate sheet if you prefer) plot the length as found in #1 (the final
result) and the width as found in the first measurement in #2. Connect these points. You should
have a rectangle.

4 Find the center of the long side, and mark a point ½ the distance of the shortest side of a block on
each side of the center. Draw a perpendicular line from each mark through the rectangle. You
should have roughly a square in the center of the rectangle.

5 From one side of that square, measure the length of the longest side of a block and mark it at the
center of the width of the rectangle, but at the point closest to the end. Do this on the other side as
well.

6 Measure ½ the distance of the second measurement in #2 on each side of the center point you just
marked (parallel with the end) and connect them with a line. Do this on the other end as well.

7 Draw a line from each end on the line you just made to the nearest outside corner of the square
you made in #4. Do this on the other side as well, and duplicate this on the other end. They should
look like inverted volcano’s.

8 Draw two lines parallel with the long sides of the rectangle from the ends of the short line you
made in #6 to the nearest end of the rectangle. Do this on the other end as well.

9. You should now have something like the diagram below (except for the squares with the X in
them). Now cut out the rectangle and the parts that have the X squares in them and you are ready
to glue the bellows to the blocks. Glue with your marks inside for a nice looking bellows. You’ll
be gluing to the edges of your blocks. The square will be the widest end of the bellows.
