American Sniper/Film synopsis

U.S. Navy SEAL Chris Kyle (Bradley Cooper) takes his sole mission --
protect his comrades -- to heart and becomes one of the most lethal
snipers in American history. His pinpoint accuracy not only saves
countless lives but also makes him a prime target of insurgents.
Despite grave danger and his struggle to be a good husband and
father to his family back in the States, Kyle serves four tours of duty in
Iraq. However, when he finally returns home, he finds that he cannot
leave the war behind.
What was the message of American Sniper?
One of the key themes of American Sniper is the strong culture of machismo—the
masculine-oriented aggressiveness, competitiveness, and glamorization of danger—
found in the U.S. military.
What message does The Sniper have about war?
' “The Sniper” was O'Flaherty's attempt to convey a message that Civil War is a
horrifying experience for all involved, both directly and indirectly. Parts of the work may
seem insensitive and unfeeling such as the description of the enemy's death; “Then the
dying man on the roof crumpled up and fell forward.

What does The Sniper learn at the end of the story?

After the sniper shoots an enemy soldier, he discovers he has just killed his brother.
The sniper's emotional detachment throughout the story, coupled with this startling
ending, allows O'Flaherty to indirectly address the way in which the Irish civil war led to
the disunity of Irish society.
