*** Each of the above formats contains the same information. Choose one format, or
mix and match formats, to best fit your needs.

Objectives:

1. Alien Text Talk activities will help students refine their spelling, grammar, punctua-
tion, and capitalization skills by translating text speak into sentences using proper
writing conventions.

2. Alien Text Talk activities will help students recognize the vast di fference between
text speak and proper writing conventions and help them understand the appropri-
ate time and place for usage in writing.

Directions:

Teachers can u tilize these activities to best fit into their schedule. Following are some suggest-
ed options:

Google Drive™ Format:


Follow the instructions on the Google Drive™ Instructions Sheet

Weekly Sentence Format:


1. Project and assign 1-2 sentences per day as bellwork or other daily routine-
activity for the student. As a class, go over the answers each day to rein
force skills.

2. Print a copy of each sheet for the student and assign as enrichment or
homework. Conclude the week with a class discussion to review the answers
to reinforce skills.

Weekly Interactive Notebook Activity:


Print a copy of each sheet for the student to place into their Grammar/Language
Notebook. Sentences can be used for enrichment or homework, concluding with a
class discussion reviewing the answers to reinforce skills.

Google Drive File
What you need to get star�ed:
1. You’ll need internet access and a Google account (free).

2. Click the link below to download the linked file into your own Google
Drive. The link will prompt you to make a copy to get started. This is
necessary so that you or your students don’t accidentally make
changes to the original file. You can rename the file if you desire.

3. Share the copy with your students. Emailing the links works well.

4. When students click the link, they will be prompted to make a copy,
which puts the file into their Google Drive.

5. Students will be able to access the content, type in the text boxes,
move shapes (if applicable), etc.

6. Changes that students make to their file will be automatically saved.

7. Students can share their work in progress and/or the completed file.

7. Cut the lines to create


Text Talk Sentence flaps.

1. Cut out the large rectangle box containing the piece for the notebook.

2. Fold the along the dotted line along the right side where the “Week” label is.

3. Fold along the center line down the middle of the box.

4. Glue the entire left side of the box from the left edge to the center fold into the notebook.

5. Glue the right folded end (”Week” section) of the box to the notebook page. Make sure to leave the area
under the empty blank boxes unglued.

6. Carefully cut down the center folded line. Be sure not to cut the notebook paper underneath.

7. Carefully cut the small black line from the center to the “Week” fold to create flaps.
