INTAKE INTERVIEW

- Important to DETERMINE if the client will continue with us.


- Must be comprehensive and tailored. Must also see a glimpse for the client.
- To obtain info that brought client on the situation.
- Appropriateness of the client for the offer services
- Must get enough information to know what treatment to use; dig deeper on the answer of the
clients.

BASIC INTERVIEW AND LISTENING SKILLS

 Attending behavior- must not be too close and not too near with the client. Telepresence
 Non-Directive Listening Responses- You’re not talking but prodding them to continue the client’s
talk
 Directing Listening Responses- you verbally prodding
 Directive Action Responses- e.g. the clients’ crying “it is okay ma’am to cry; do you have any
tissue there?”
 Skilled Use of Questions- avoid repeating the questions to the client.

INTERVIEW STAGES

 Introduce yourself; “I am an intern at HuMind (do not say the campus)”


 Introduce the methods to be used to record the information
 Inform how long the interview will take; start with easy questions first

MAIN BODY

- (USAL)
- Develop the main themes and explore the responses
- Give the client time to think and let them narrate their story
- Use open and close questions

CLOSING

- Recap the information/themes


- Ask them if they have any more questions
- Can also point clarifications

IMPORTANT AREAS IN LIFE

- Psych Report Format (fam, acad/work, personal, social and spiritual history)-
- Fam History- very important aspect; relationship of the members
- Academic – “how do you describe when you were/are a student”
- -Social – “how do you describe your relation with other people”
- Personal History – boyfriend, girlfriend, or married “how do you describe your love relationship
with someone”; handing lovelife can also lead to their stress
- Spiritual History- it is also a protective factor; the less the protective factor, the high possibility to
have mental issues. CBT/DBT/ACT

USAL

-cognition, thoughts, beliefs; what’s on their mind

SINTOMA

- If none ‘there were no..”


- If there are, like stomachache

ASAL

- Is the client Calm, relax


- If the client is crying it is included in asal

LUHA

- Emotional state (sad, happy etc.)

Predisposing- past of the client, how they were raised; those that put a person at risk in developing
developing the problem

Precipitating- the reason why the client have the situation; trigger

Perpetuating- the reason why she seek help; symptoms
