(b) Enlist the major compounds of ordinary portland cement and briefly describe their importance.
(c) Cement is made of solid complexes of oxides of Calcium etc. Write the names of the four well
known complexes along with the notations used to represent these.
4. What do you understand by the initial and final setting times of concrete? What are the typical initial
and final setting times of 43 grade ordinary portland cement (OPC).
5. What is elastic properties of cement concrete as Modulus of Elasticity?
6. Explain the effect of creep and shrinkage in various structural element.
7. Which types of cement are suitable for (a) mass concreting (b) resistance to sulphate attack?
8. How can the development of strength and heat of hydration be controlled in cement manufacture?
9. What is an admixture? List four different mineral and chemical mixtures.
10. (a) What is “Ferro-cement”? Explain its casting technique.
(b) What are the methods of shotcreting? Discuss use of shotcrete.
11. What does ‘creep of concrete’ mean? Is creep harmful or beneficial?
