TESTING AND SUBSEA

Surface Well Testing

Wellhead Desander and Accumulator

Halliburton Testing and Subsea, in conjunction with eProcess Technologies,

offers enhanced cyclonic solids separation and removal with unparalleled
removal efficiencies as high as 99% of solid particles > 10 μm.

The multiphase desander offers a proven, compact, simple, and cost-reduced

alternative to current techniques and enables higher sand-free production
rates while eliminating downhole sand control measures. The installation of
a multiphase desander will enhance production by increasing well rates and
reducing process downtime. The robust design promotes installation of the
multiphase desander on almost any oil or gas well. Virtually all particulate
debris such as formation sand, fracture sand, drilling chips, chalk, and scale
can be removed from production wells on line.

Operating Principle
The multiphase desander operates on the same principles as a standard
liquid-only desander, except it is designed to treat multiphase flow.

The unit uses pressure energy from the well stream to achieve cyclonic
separation of solids. The multiphase feed stream, a mixture of liquids (oil,
drilling fluid, water, etc.), gas (natural, nitrogen, etc.), and solids enter the
cyclone insert tangentially through the inlet. The insert geometry forces the
mixture to spin in a radial vortex pattern, which imparts centrifugal forces on
the solid particle forcing them toward the wall of the cone. The solids continue
to spin in a radial vortex motion down the length of the cone to discharge
through the apex and then report to the accumulator. The accumulator is
periodically isolated to allow discharge of the solids then brought back on line.
During the discharge cycle, solids are collected in the wellhead desander vessel,
enabling continuous separation with intermittent solids removal.

Applications
• Exploration and appraisal well testing
• Cleanup and flowback
• Production, inline testing (including multiphase flow metering)
• Extended well testing
• Early production facilities
