This document summarizes a student project to build a simple traffic light circuit using 555 timer ICs. The circuit uses two 555 timer ICs in monostable and astable modes to control the timing of three LED lights, simulating a basic traffic signal. Components include 555 timer ICs, capacitors, resistors, a breadboard, wires, and LED lights. The total cost of materials for the project was approximately 200 Indian rupees. The project demonstrated the basic working principle of a traffic light using electronic components.

VYOM PANDEY KUNAL YADAV ROLL NO.22BEC148 22BEC149 Title- Traffic signal system
Introduction- The traffic signal is a system where
different colored lights are used to indicate the vehicle drivers to control the flow of traffic and avoid cluttering at any point on roads. This project demonstrates the basic working of the traffic signal. The 555 timer IC is used to control the duration of the display of a particular
Application- this type of circuit can be seen in devices
that give a continuous or oscillating output which is time dependent such as alarm clocks, traffic signal, etc. Schematic/Block diagram- Components- 1. 555 timer IC’s (x2) 2. 100 micro F capacitors (x2) 3. 100k ohm resistor 4. 47k ohm resistor 5. 390 ohms resistor (x2) 6. 330 ohms resistor 7. Breadboard 8. Connecting wires 9. LED lights 5mm (x3)
Working principle-
The 555 timer IC works in monostable and astable
modes in this circuit. In Monostable mode, the 555 timer generates a single output pulse when it is triggered. It is used for controlling the length of a light or alarm staying on after the button is pressed. In Astable mode, the 555 timer generates a continuous square wave output. It is used in devices that require a regular oscillating signal. In this circuit, the timing of each LED is controlled by the capacitance and resistance value. The continuous output is given with the help of monostable mode. The repetition takes place because of the astable mode. Bill of materials-
1. 555 timer IC’s (x2) = 50 Rs
2. 100 micro F capacitors (x2) = 10 Rs 3. 100k ohm resistor = 5 Rs 4. 47k ohm resistor = 5 Rs 5. 390 ohms resistor (x2) = 10 Rs 6. 330 ohms resistor = 5Rs 7. Breadboard = 20 Rs 8. Connecting wires = 10 Rs 9.
