Unit 12: Uncle Ted has travelled all over the world
Lesson 2: Present perfect- talking about experiences
Aim: the students will use the English language to talk about different experiences
Objectives:
1. SWBAT consolidate the form and function of Present Perfect Tense;
2. SWBAT ask questions about different places using Have you….?

Materials: textbook, Cd player, cassette, practice book, work book, “ Places to see “
cards
Skills involved: listening, reading, writing, speaking
New words: tram, skyscrapers; ( for song) lassie, laddie

Introduction:
The teacher tells the students that they will learn about Present Perfect Tense and they
will talk about experiences.

Activity 1: warm-up - whole class


T introduces a new exercise: first she does the exercise herself, describing what she
is doing – T raises her right hand and her left leg at the same time, very slowly; she
puts them down at the same time. Then she rises her left hand and her right leg at
the same time, very slowly. She puts them down at the same time.
T plays music or hums a tune that everyone knows. T does the exercise to music.
( This is called Cross crawl . It is meant to help improve many skills: writing,
listening, reading and spelling.)

Activity 2 : Using the Present perfect –whole class/ pair work


Children focus attention on the grammar gang in the book. They look at how
present perfect is formed with has and have.
T puts members of the grammar gang on the board and the cards she has made in
the grammar gang lorry. Children come up, draw out cards, and use them to de fine
the structure and make example sentences, as in the book.
Cards with: I , you, he, she, it, we, you, they + have/ has + been/climbed

Cards “ Where we’ve been “: mountain top, beach, zoo, large city
Cards ”What we’ve seen” : clown, tram, tiger, shark, snow, skyscraper
Conversation ( using the cards)

A: I have been to a large city.


B: Have you seen a tram?
A:Yes, I have .

C: I have been to the beach.


D: Have you seen a shark?
C: No, I haven’t.

Activity 3: Listening- singing- whole class


Children look at the picture and read through the words to the song. T explains that
lassie is the word for girl in Scotland and laddie is the word for boy.
T plays tape 31. Children listen and follow the words in their books.

Have you ever seen a lassie go this way and that?
Go this way and that way and this way and that way,
Have you ever seen a lassie go this way and that?

T plays the tape again; children listen and join in , doing the actions when they hear
this way and that (way): right hand curved above head, left hand on hip; left hand
curved above head, right hand on hip.
