ENDO is a form of contractualization in which organizations offer temporary employment

opportunities to job seekers. The period of employment under this contract lasts less than six
months.
Endo is a colloquial term coined from shortening the phrase, "end-of-contract." Here in
our country, employers are required to regularize employees after six (6) months of working for
the company, so some companies try to hire workers for a maximum of five (5) months. The
Philippine Labor Code's Article 281, is the governing law in this matter which states that:
“Probationary employment shall not exceed six (6) months from the date the employee started
working, unless it is covered by an apprenticeship agreement stipulating a longer period. The
services of an employee who has been engaged on a probationary basis may be terminated for
a just cause or when he fails to qualify as a regular employee in accordance with reasonable
standards made known by the employer to the employee at the time of his engagement. An
employee who is allowed to work after a probationary period shall be considered a regular
employee.”
Here, they rehire them for another five months when the brief contract expires, and so
on. This is the most strategy used by businesses, by using the endo system, they are able to
avoid regularizing employees and, as a result, refrain from providing benefits like 13th month
pay, annual leaves, health benefits, social security benefits, and other similar perks, which
lowers employment costs and business spending. This is seemingly unfair for those who are in
the said workforce especially those who are minimum wage earners, part-timers, and working
students.
Hence, the ENDO contractualization in the Philippine workforce creates inhuman
scenario and this should be change in our system and everyone should have the right to be in
the workforce that is not based on a limited time or contractual only.
