Learning Competency Code: M2AL-IIIi-84

II. SUBJECT MATTER

TOPIC: Identity Simple Repeating Patterns
References: K-12 Teacher’s Manual pp. 311-321

Self Learning Modules Quarter 4 Week 8 pp. 34-35
Materials:

3. Math Kit containing different shapes and strips containing names of the strips

PREREQUISITE CONCEPTS AND SKILLS

1. Makes patterns of shapes.
2. Creates a pattern or sequence of objects

INSTRUCTIONAL PROCEDURE
A. Preparatory Activities
1. Pre-assessment
 Show different cutouts of shapes. Let the pupils identify the shapes.
B. Developmental Activities
1. Motivation
 Present to the class cloth and pictures with different patterns or designs like a malong,
handkerchief or piece of cloth.
 Ask: “What have you noticed? Do you find them attractive or colorful?

2. Presentation
 Say: Today we will discuss different kinds of patterns.
Patterns are shapes, size, colors orientation that repeat in a systematic way.

a. Concrete
 Call a few pupils to the front of the classroom.
 Demonstrate how to make a pattern by positioning students in various patterns.
 Encourage pupils to say what comes next in the pattern.
 Let the pupils look around the room and ask which object inside the room shows pattern.

a. Pictorial
 Model different patterns using shapes, numbers and lines.
Ask the pupils what is being repeated. Explain the pattern.

b. Abstract
 Using the same figures, let the pupils show samples on how to extend the patterns.
 Ask the pupils what would be the next shapes if the pattern is to be extended and why?
 Ask: Can you draw/extend the pattern to two or more numbers/figures/lines?

objects follow a pattern?

 Patterns are lines, shapes, colors, size, orientation that repeat in a systematic way.
