CVLE3111 EARTH MATERIALS AND PROCESSES 3 credits

Objectives: To provide to engineering students the relevance and application of earth


materials and processes to civil engineering

Content: Geology and its relation to Civil Engineering. Important mineral and major rock types,
geology time scale, elements of physical geology and earth history. Physical and engineering
properties of rocks; principal and mechanics of rocks deformation. Introduction to the Geology
of Cameroon, construction materials, essentials of hydrogeology and engineering geology.
Outlines of mineral resources of Cameroon. Engineering application to water supply, site
investigations, dams, dykes, etc.

Outcome: To provide Civil Engineering students with the background and tools to identify
geologic materials, to have knowledge of design and construction procedures to safely control
soil/rock behaviour
