Modifiers we use in this lecture

Array for duplications, bevel for smooth edges, boolean for cutting
holes.
Using the array modifier

Select the default cube, select array in the modifier pannel


Change the blender unit distance

By moving this slider you can change the blender unit distance
Duplicated cubes

When using a value of 2, you now have a distance between the


cubes of two blender units
Changing the count

By using a value of 3 in the count bar, you add more cubes.


Adding another array modifier

You can use multiple array modifier to add some varriation


Changing more values

The new array modifier is on the bottom of the other modifier. Use
a value of 0 on top, and change the middle value to 2
Making a grid of cubes

Changing the count to 3 makes a grid of cubes.


The bevel modifier

Add a new cube or start a new scene. Select the cube and add the
bevel modifier.
Change the width

By changing the values of the width, you can chnage the bevel looks
Change the segments

By changing the segments value you can add more detail to the
cube.
Using the boolean modifier

Before we use this modifier, scale the cube. This can be done with a
shortkey ( S + 5 key ) this only works if you select the cube.
Making a cutter object

The boolean only works if we have a cutter object. Add a new cube
and name this as cutter
Scaling the cutter object

Select the cutter and press S + X key scale the cube so you gat a
shape as i used in the sample image
Combine the cutter and the cube

Drag the cutter ( G + X key ) into the main cube


Reset the scale

Before we use the boolean, reset the scale from both the objects
Selecting the boolean

Before you add the boolean, first select the cutter, and shift + right
mouse butten click the main cube. Now you go to the modifier
Add the cutter

The boolean needs to know what objects it needs to cut into the
main cube. If you click left mouse button in the object tab, you will
Use the Difference Operation

By deafault it’s using the intersection option, chnage tis to


Difference to get the right effect.
Delete the cutter

You now need to delete the cutter object to see the hole in the
main cube
Switch to edit mode

We know have a hole in the cube, to add some detail switch to the
edit mode.
Add a bevel

If you like you can add a bevel detail. Select the inner vertices and
press CTRL + B to add some bevel.
