Report card comments – Unit of Inquiry (UOI) ( Sample)

Girls

XXXXXXXXXXXX has comprehended the units done this term. She is encouraged to respond
to the learning engagements in class but the learning she gets out of that is rather limited.
With guidance, she has started to share relevant information and should try to increase
contribution to group discussions. In the unit ‘Feelings’, XXXXXXXXXXXX could identify her
own feelings and find ways of expressing her emotions. She participated whole heartedly in
group activities as well as individual tasks. She thoroughly enjoyed recording her feelings on
the bar chart every morning without fail. She developed her social and communication skills
through group activities, however, was not keen on giving her inputs when she had to work
with her team to enact and present responsible ways of expressing emotions. In the unit
‘Products’, XXXXXXXXXXXX could sort things into Raw/ Natural/ Manmade/ Finished with
some hand holding. She found the story of chocolate very interesting and tried to trace back
the stages of production. She developed her research skills while creating her own research
booklet on Milk to Ice-cream. She was effectively able to reason why products are
consumed. but found the summative assessment of selecting, listing and recording the
production of a product challenging. During our unit ‘Family History’, XXXXXXXXXXXX was
excited to see the exploration corner. She looked at all the objects with curiosity and
wondered why they were there. Her skills of questioning and interpreting were developed
during this unit. She would benefit from focusing on recording relevant information. She
understood that old things are preserved as a memory and to know about the history of a
family.

Boys
XXXXXXXXXXXX has proved time and again that true to the IB ideology, he is a thinker and
inquirer, who questions the way the world around him works. Bubbling with curiosity and
enthusiasm, he eagerly shares his ideas and views on the topic under the scanner. He came
across as quite a knowledgeable child, who threw light on a lot of areas during our inquiry.
For example, he revealed that the seats of the bus are welded together, which is what makes
it stable and he also explained how 'earthing' of electric wires works. He explained to the
class how foundations are laid to keep pillars strong and, remembering how the iron bars
running down the middle help the Statue of Liberty stand firm and tall, he suggested the
same idea to a friend who was trying to build a tall tower out of paper at the Art Museum .
His research skills are admirable as he collected information on the Eiffel tower and
prepared a brochure on it. Using the Chatterpix app, he spoke well on behalf of the Leaning
tower of Pisa on the need for its preservation. His creativity knew no bounds as he chose to
make a clay model of a rocket ship to the moon in commemoration of 'Man landing on the
moon'. XXXXXXXXXXXX was quite inquisitive during our unit on 'Light and Sound' and
enjoyed predicting, observing and learning about their properties. It would be good to see
XXXXXXXXXXXX explain his thoughts and understanding clearly in writing, which he is
hesitant to do.
