Summary On The INVEST Project 2023
A game-changing project to enable women to enter industries with a male preponderance, the
INVEST-IN-HER Scholarship Program is being run by the Ghana Chamber of Construction
Industry (GCCI) with funding assistance from the World University Service of Canada (WUSC).
With a training period of between six months and a year, this program offers thorough training in
disciplines like electrical and solar installation, Heavy-Duty Machine Operation, Computer
Hardware, Networking, and Programming, Welding and Fabrication, and Auto Mechanics. The
proportion of female participants enrolling in the trade regions has significantly increased since
the 2nd Cohort. Greater Accra, Kumasi, and Takoradi are the three regions used as the training's
pilot sites.
The program aims to remove gender barriers, advance gender equality, and develop a more
diverse workforce in Ghana by giving young women opportunity and training. The goal of
INVEST-IN-HER is to make its female participants more employable. This entails making it
easier for them to enter the workforce, either through direct job placement or direct working
experience learning.
The INVEST-IN-HER Scholarship Program has a promising future. Some key areas to focus on
in the coming years include securing long-term funding to continue and expand the program,
ensuring its sustainability and reach and collaborating with more local businesses and
educational institutions to broaden the scope of training and job placement opportunities. With
continued support and dedication from the Ghana Chamber of Construction Industry and the
World University Service of Canada, the program has the potential to bring about lasting change
in the Ghanaian workforce, while also serving as a model for similar initiatives in other regions.
The table below gives a breakdown of the institutions and their corresponding number of
