Assignment # 1
1. Task: Read the attached research paper – Refaat1 – and then re-read the
introduction carefully, underline the topic sentence of each paragraph in the
introduction and finally, determine the thesis statement (TS) of the mentioned
paper.

2. Deliverable: A hard copy of a neat well-structured and organized script of your

findings. Revise the rules of writing "Introduction" and "TS". Be ready to discuss the
outcome with classmates.

3. Focus Groups: Attendees are divided into groups of five students per group.

5. Grading Scale: 5 marks are allotted for Assignment #1.

Assignment # 2
1. Task: Choose an interesting topic for your term paper. Write a first draft for the
introduction and pinpoint the TS.

2. Deliverable: A hard copy of a neat well-structured and organized manuscript of your

attempt. Revise the rules of writing "Introduction" and "TS" before writing. Be ready
to discuss and defend your argument with classmates.

3. Focus Groups: Each attendee works individually.

5. Grading Scale: 5 marks are allotted for Assignment #2. Plagiarism is absolutely
unacceptable and will definitely lead to complete loss of the assignment grade.
