WHAT IS VETERINARY MEDICINE?
Within domestic animals, a veterinarian not only has to know how to deal with
cats and dogs, but also with birds, reptiles or rodents. People increasingly adopt
these types of animals.
The scope of veterinary medicine is wide, covering all species, both domestic
and wild, so based on this classification, let’s see what animals are studied in
veterinary medicine.
Domestic animals: are the species that through artificial selection, have been
domesticated by humans and in some cases are pets. This includes species
bred in captivity on a commercial scale, or commonly taken from the wild and
subjected to domestication processes. For example: Dog, sheep, pig, goat,
cow, bull, cat, rooster and hen, donkey, elk, among others.
Currently, there are at least 20 million pets. This is equivalent to saying that, in
25% of homes, people live with pets of all kinds on a daily basis.
Dogs, expenses, fish, birds, turtles, rabbits… Domestic animals and pets are
becoming more and more popular! And for this reason, professionals with a
high level of specialization who can take care of and maintain their health are
increasingly needed.
Next, we will see some of the most common specialties and what animals a
veterinarian of each specialty treats.
PET VETERINARIAN:
They are the most popular veterinarians, since most homes have domestic
animals and very common species, such as dogs or cats.
Within this specialty, the rural veterinarian can also be included: this
professional is in charge of caring for farm animals, and generally carries out his
work on livestock farms. The animals in their care can be of the porcine, ovine
or bovine species.
FREQUENT DISEASES:
The most effective way to cure our animals is PREVENTING THEM FROM
GETTING SICK, I emphasize this characteristic because many times there is a
tendency to neglect vaccination and feeding, thus opening the doors to all these
diseases.
Below are the most common diseases that our beloved animals could present:
•mushrooms.
• Viruses.
•bacteria.
• Parvo.
•Hepatitis.
•Laryngotracheitis.
•Stomach flu
• Leptospirosis: in cattle.

•Ectoparasites end parasitic mites and fleas: intestinal, roundworms, lungs, and
circulatory system, highly dangerous today such as leishmanial or filarial).
