Lunch and Learn

Lunch and Learn is a positive school-wide initiative to encourage and support student achievement. This plan
allows for time during the day for students to receive remediation, support, or enrichment. Students may choose
to participate in Lunch and Learn, or a member of staff may assign Lunch and Learn when a student needs more
help or make-up an assessment. Lunch and Learn occurs daily or by appointment/ prior teacher notification.
Students are allowed to take advantage of a variety of activities during this time:
• Eat lunch in the cafeteria, school field, quad, or in a supervised classroom
• Participate in club meetings
• Meet with teachers for remediation or support
• Participate in various enrichment activities

Guidelines:
• Las Vegas Academy is a closed campus. Students are required to remain on campus for Lunch and Learn.
• Food is not allowed in the theaters, gym, hallways, general common areas, or bathrooms. Food deliveries, such as Uber
Eats, are not allowed and will be turned away.
• This time is designed for students to have lunch and engage in either academic or arts support on a daily basis.
• It is the student’s responsibility to use Lunch and Learn as designed to help achieve success in academic and major
classes. Assigned academic Lunch and Learn always takes precedence over lunchtime major
rehearsals/sectionals/meetings unless there is prior approval by administration.

Study Hall Location: The Library/Media Center is available for study, computer access and quiet socialization.

Expanded Learning Time (ELT)

Students with missing formative assignments may be assigned a required ELT by their teacher. ELT takes place
in the library from 2:10 pm until the late bus arrives at 4:00 pm. A minimum of 24 hour notice will be given the
student by their teacher. This is not recorded with the Character & Compliance as a behavior infraction, however,
students missing their assigned ELT will be referred to the Character & Compliance Office. A teacher may
unassigned the ELT if the student submits their missing work before the assigned ELT time. Daily ELT sessions
are monitored by a faculty member who is an expert in the student’s missing content area. Students may also be
assigned ELT to complete Exact Path assignments.
