Subject: Engl 2210 Final Reflection

English 2210 has taught me many things about professional and technical

communication. Throughout this course I learned about the following student objectives: project

planning, project analysis, content development, organizational design, written communication,

visual communication, reviewing and editing, content management, and production and delivery.

Each of these objectives have guided me through assignments and have helped me in other

classes and at work.

When I first created my webpage, it was a little intimidating at first. After the first week

or so, it got a lot easier and I felt a lot more confident in putting material into the website. When I

first created the webpage it was frustrating not understanding how it worked or anxiety rising

because I felt overwhelmed. However, after completing the assignments, I have found that this

class has helped me become more organized and proficient in different skills. I have been able to

take many of these skills back to my place of work and apply them. Some of the skills that I have

found the most useful for myself include: project planning, project analysis, visual

communication, reviewing and editing, and content management.

I have been project planning in this class by researching and composing documents for

assignments such as project 3 where I did research on Early Childhood Education. I have used

this skill at work by compiling research and applying it to team documents for projects. Project

analysis is working to identify readers and context for documents and understanding how

documents can respond to different contexts. This was important for project 2 when I looked at
different sources that covered the Dove campaign, what happened, and wrote to Dove and wrote

a response letter. This showed how to respond to different contexts on both sides. Visual

communication is understanding and practicing visual design by developing principles such as

charts, infographics, and presentations. An example of this would be for project 1 where I created

a video of myself making biscochitos. I created a video demonstrating me making them with a

voiceover for a better audio. Reviewing and editing is learning informed stylistic choices,

avoidance of misspelling and mechanical errors, and text-revision. Throughout this course we

have done peer-review and this has been extremely helpful, especially in a class like this where

we are constantly writing. Having that extra set of eyes on a draft or someone hearing out your

ideas, it really helps and aids in the final product. Content management is the knowledge of

organizational management and extensive digital information, we content management, and

social networking. We have used this skill in this class by creating a webpage where we have

continuously uploaded content. This is something that I have personally liked the most and found

the most useful in my current position at work. I have learned how to use “Confluence” which is

a site we use at work and I have been asked by multiple teams to create pages for them because

they really like the work that I have produced so far. I do think that this class had a lot to do with

that because I have become proficient in what needs to be added to sites and how to structure the

information.

The different projects, assignments, discussions, and reading have helped me grow

professionally and I feel that we have hit every one of the SLOs throughout this course perfectly.

They have helped me in other courses at UNM this semester and I am sure that this won’t be the

last time I use them in school. They have helped me become more proficient in the work that I

am doing and I have taken on more responsibilities and tasks at work because of it.
