What are assistive technologies?

• Assistive technologies are apps or websites that can help


aid for a specific problem. For the educational setting,
assistive technologies can help aid teachers with students
who have learning disabilities. Depending on the kind,
assistive technologies can also work independently with
students.

like speech. It can be used by
students who visual difficulties.

a way to get through text
assignments easily.

• Amazon Polly is offered through a usage basis. There are a
specific amount of characters included in a plan
• They offer a free plan which includes 5 million characters a
month. If more characters are read beyond the limit, there
is an additional price, like $16 for an additional 1 million
characters (Compusult)

• Jouse3 is a hardware device that
was created for people who
have paralysis or have issues with
their fine motor skills. Students
who have issues with their fine
motor skills tend to not have
much experience with computer
because most are not adapted
in a way to help them.
• It works as a Sip-and-Puff style
machine. The user simply moves
the joystick with their mouth and
it works as a type of mouse. It
connects to a computer through
USB and senses the motion and
registers it as an action.

affordable.

used by students who have

reading/writing learning

• It offers a revision sequence for
students where it can edit writing
for spelling mistakes.

rephrasing and word prediction.
• Text-to-Speech is also included
so students can hear their writing
read out loud.

• It is available as a Google Chrome extension and is


automatically in use once installed.
• Ginger is free! To a point anyways.
• Though it is free, there are limits on its features,
• There are different plans for unlimited features.
• For unlimited features, it is about $89.88 a year. For
teachers and students, they offer 70% off! (Ginger)
