Preface
Following my completion of the Translation and
Interpretation 2 course taught by lecturer Nguyen Doan Thao
Chi, I have obtained extra abilities for my major as well as my
field of study. As a foreign language student, I understand
how crucial translation and interpretation skills are. After
fifteen study sessions on five engaging topics, I considered
"What have I learned, what have I taken notes on, have I
truly understood the lesson, and would I be able to practice
translation and interpretation in reality or not?"

This reflective journal ensured that I paid close attention


and understood what I was studying in the classroom, which
is why I considered this practice useful. While not all of the
information I noted was pertinent, doing so helped me to
compile an overview when I reread the material. However,

handwritten notes may not always be sufficient. For instance,
the notes contained irrelevant or not fascinating information
rather than being a straight reproduction of the individuals'
words. Therefore, I had to refine the information I had noted
down, as well as had to add my personal views to this
reflective journal.

The knowledge we absorb is never limited. Even while


knowing about translation and interpretation is beneficial,
knowledge and news from society are also key factors that
allow you to constantly innovate with the times, stay current
with trends, and comprehend information. I recognized that
to do this successfully, I needed to study and gain adequate
information, as well as, most importantly, the essential
abilities. This journal summarizes everything I have learned
as a result of the course, as well as my future goals.

VIETNAMESE - ENGLISH TRANSLATION
Ẩm thực Huế là một nét khác biệt trong nền ẩm thực đồ sộ Việt Nam, nó có thể chia ra
làm hai khía cạnh khác nhau là cung đình và dân gian. Ẩm thực cung đình Huế được
nhiều người biết đến không chỉ ở cách chế biến, nấu ăn mà ở cách trình bày, trang trí
món ăn thật sự ấn tượng.
Hue cuisine is a unique feature in the massive Vietnamese cuisine, it can be divided into two
different parts: royal cuisine and folk cuisine. Hue royal cuisine is well-known not only in the
way of processing and cooking the dishes but also in the special impressive presentation and
decoration.

Các món ăn cung đình được các đầu bếp hoàng gia ngày xưa rất chú trọng việc nêm gia vị
kĩ càng nhằm đảm bảo mùi vị vừa miệng, đậm đà, tuy nhiên vẫn phải rõ các vị chua, cay,
mặn, ngọt trong từng món ăn. Không chỉ vậy, các đầu bếp hoàng gia cần phải duy trì
được sự tươi nguyên của thực phẩm.
Royal dishes were carefully/thoroughly seasoned by old royal chefs/chefs in the past to ensure a
highly-seasoned, mouth-watering taste; however, it was still important to know the sour, spicy,
salty and sweet flavors in each dish. Furthermore, the royal chefs needed to maintain the
freshness of the food.

Có thể nói ẩm thực cung đình Huế là đỉnh cao của sự tinh túy, cầu kì, trang nhã và thanh
cao. Đó chính là cốt lõi về nghệ thuật chế biến, trình bày các món ăn, mà cao hơn là quan
niệm triết lý, tư tưởng thẩm mỹ tạo nên văn hóa ẩm thực Huế sau này.
It can be said that Hue royal cuisine is the pinnacle of quintessence, sophistication, elegance, and
nobility. That is the core of culinary arts and food styling, which is superior to the philosophical
conception, the aesthetic idea that creates Hue culinary culture later.

ENGLISH – VIETNAMESE TRANSLATION
The principal purpose of this article was to present the kinds of adaptive techniques
used by the English language teachers in the English textbook for students of Senior and
Vocational high schools which were developed by the Center for Curriculum and
textbook development under the Ministry of Education and Culture of Indonesia. To
conduct the research, qualitative research design was employed and the data were
analyzed qualitatively. The data were collected from five English language teachers
through documents, observation, and interviews.
Mục tiêu chính của bài báo này là giới thiệu những loại kỹ thuật thích ứng được giáo viên dạy
tiếng Anh tại các trường trung học phổ thông và trường nghề sử dụng trong sách giáo khoa môn
tiếng Anh do Trung tâm phát triển chương trình và sách giáo khoa thuộc Bộ Giáo dục và Văn hóa
Indonesia phát triển . Để tiến hành khảo sát, nghiên cứu này áp dụng phương pháp nghiên cứu
định tính và phân tích định tính các dữ liệu. Dữ liệu được thu thập từ 5 giáo viên dạy tiếng Anh
thông qua văn bản tài liệu, hình thức quan sát và phỏng vấn.

VIETNAMESE - ENGLISH TRANSLATION


Dựa trên kết quả của các nghiên cứu trước đây về các yếu tố cảm xúc trong việc tiếp thu
ngôn ngữ thứ hai, nghiên cứu này cho thấy học sinh trung học cơ sở gặp phải các yếu tố
cảm xúc tiêu cực như buồn chán, lo lắng, tuyệt vọng, ức chế và kém tự tin trong việc học
tiếng Anh. Một số đề xuất nhằm trau dồi và cải thiện cảm xúc của học sinh cũng được
đưa ra với hy vọng nâng cao chất lượng việc dạy và học tiếng Anh ở trường THCS.
Based on the findings of previous studies about emotions in second language acquisition, this
study shows that secondary students encounter negative emotions, such as boredom, anxiety,
hopelessness, inhibition, and low self-confidence in their English learning process. Some
suggestions for cultivating and improving students’ emotions are also presented in the hope of
enhancing English teaching and learning quality in secondary schools.

Speech Style and Delivery: Each author has his own language and

authors’ styles before the translation and interpretation process.

Difficulties and Solutions
Translating and interpreting English can present several challenges for almost
all students. I am not an exception. Here are some of the key difficulties I
encountered during my translating and interpreting practice:
Language Proficiency
Being well-versed in both the target language and the source language is one
of my main obstacles.
To effectively convey meaning in both languages, I must have a thorough
mastery of their syntax, vocabulary, idiomatic phrases, and cultural quirks.
Cultural Differences
Interpreting and translating entails more than only word translations across
languages. It calls for knowledge of the cultural setting and the capacity to
communicate the desired message in a way that is suitable for the target
culture.
I have to be mindful of cultural allusions, idioms, and traditions that might not
have precise translations in the target language.
Accuracy and Faithfulness
While translating and interpreting, it is critical to maintain the accuracy and
faithfulness of the source texts.
I strive to avoid adding or removing information from the translation. This
necessitates meticulous attention to context as well as substantial background
knowledge.

Difficulties and Solutions
Time Limitation:
Under time constraints, we are required to produce precise translations or
interpretations immediately. Consequently, there isn't enough time for me to
investigate the writing style, supplementary information, or cultural background
of the authors.
I get used to scheduling time for each step of the translation process to
address the time restriction. For instance, spend thirty minutes researching the
author's style, thirty minutes studying cultural context or extra information,
and one hour translating and interpreting.
Technical Terms
Knowledge of technical terminology is necessary for translating and
interpreting in specialist professions like engineering, law, or medicine.
I occasionally ask friends or lecturers for assistance. When I have struggled
with researching difficult subjects, they could offer relevant phrases or even
source references.
