winner.

B. Motivation Teacher will ask the following:

1. Who among you here has a friend or a classmate
who belongs to the Muslim group? What is the
name of their religion?
2. Have you been invited or watched some of their
gatherings?
3. What have you noticed about their foods?
4. Why do you think they are not allowed to eat pork?
5. If you are going to invite them to some of your
occasions or gatherings, what foods will you offer
to them?
6. Do you know some other religious groups that
have different beliefs? How will you show your
respect to them?
C. Presentation Reading the story.

Your family invited your Muslim neighbor for the celebration of

the Kakanin Festival here in San Mateo. Your mother wanted
to prepare them afritada and biko. She listed the following
menu and its prices.

Based on the given prices, what will you use to easily compute
the total expenses?

The teacher will introduce the different functions in MS Excel.

A formula is an expression that calculates values in a cell or in

a range of cells. It enables you to perform calculations such as
addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.

A function is a predefined formula already available in Excel.
Functions perform specific calculations in a particular order
based on the specified values, called arguments, or
parameters.

=sum functions used to add the value in arguments

=average function used to calculate the arithmetic mean of the
values in arguments
=product used to multiply the value in arguments

The formula in MS Excel always begins with an equal (=) sign.

Provide another spreadsheet, teacher will guide the pupils in

computing using the following functions:
=sum, =average, =product
(The teacher guides the pupils on how to use functions in MS Excel)

D. Practice Exercise Direction: Study the spreadsheet. Compute the following using
the formula/functions on each:

1. Total Cost of Ingredients: add all cost of ingredients.

2. Total Cost of Operations: add all expenses
3. Total Cost of Production: Total Cost of Ingredients + Total
Cost of Operations
4. Selling Price: Total Cost of Production = 50% of Total Cost
of Production
E. Independent Practice Group Activity
Direction: Perform the following using functions and formulas in
an electronic spreadsheet tool

Group 1: Compute the total revenue per month of Mang

Tomas Sari-sari store.

Group 2: Compute the product of each given numeral value.

Group 3: Compute the average age of each column.

Group 4: Find the total fruits in Aling Belen fruit stand.

Group 5 : Find the product of column A and B and calculate

the total of two columns.

Generalization What are the functions that you have learned today?
=sum, =product, and =average
What is the use of the function sum? Product and average?
=sum functions used to add the value in arguments
=average function used to calculate the arithmetic mean of the
values in arguments
=product used to multiply the value in arguments

Application Anthony is a grade 6 pupil. His father promised to buy him a
cellphone if he got a general average grade of 90 or above.
To monitor his grades, he recorded his grades from the first quarter
to the fourth quarter. If you were Anthony, how can you get an
average of 90 or above?
Calculate his final grade using formulas and functions in an
electronic spreadsheet.

Evaluation Direction: Multiple Choice

For questions 1-3. Study the spreadsheet given and answer the
questions. Choose the best answer.

A. =sum(A2,A5)
B. =sum(A2:A5)
C. sum(A2:A5)
D. =sumA2:A5
2. To find the average in Column B. What formula will you going to
use?
A. =average(B2:B5)
B. average(B2/B5)
C. =average(B2,B5)
D. =average(B3:B6)

3. What function and formula will you use if you want to multiply
Column A and Column B, in row 5.
A. =product(A4:A5)
B. =product(A5:B5)
C. =product(A5)
D. =product(B5)

4. Sheryl uses an Excel function always, on what sign she need to

begin?
