Prologue
There was a time in the contemporary world when humans and non-humans co-exist peacefully.
Humans, werewolves, vampires, and witches, and wizards, among others, were all minding their
own business.
One day, a beautiful baby girl was born to a wizard and witch. Kimberly was very enigmatic. She
had charmed everyone who looked at her. Her parents were both thrilled, as they were waiting to
have a child for a few years now.
“She will surely have many suitors in the future.” People would always tell her parents when
they went out for a stroll.
But then, when they went to the oracle to have her see and read their daughter’s future, they were
not expecting to hear this kind of prophecy about their child.
“A child was born on the day of Winter Solstice,
Will die before she gets to one.
A warlock will be the reason,
In the future will come back for treason.
But then she will have a chance,
Be powerful, forward and beyond.
Will rule the lands of many,
Together with her mates of royalty.”
The parents could not talk after the oracle announced the prophecy. She could only read what she
saw in her vision, but could not explain it. They went home and cried. Their daughter was indeed
born on the day of Winter Solstice. They have waited for a child to come, but they could not
enjoy much time with her.
Each morning, the couple would say their thanks, that they had lived through another night with
their precious baby. Fear and anxiety run through their veins. They can try to master a handful of
spells, but they know they cannot change the fate of their baby.
They made an arrangement with their human friend, Martha, Kimberly’s godmother. In case
something happens to them, she will come forward to adopt and take care of Kimberly. Martha
became the couple’s secret keeper and sealed the arrangement in secrecy with magic. The
godmother knew of the prophecy and was updated now and then of what the couple’s plans were.
Kimberly’s last name should be changed to Martha’s, too. In case the perpetrator will come back
in the future, he or she will not easily trace Kimberly.

One night, the wizard and a witch were tending to their six-month-old daughter and were getting
ready to sleep, when a loud knock on the door disturbed them.
The couple looked nervously at each other, knowing that whoever was on the other side means to
harm them and their little child. They have premonitions, but they were not expecting this to
happen so soon.
Both of them got around their precious daughter in the nursery and chanted a spell they have just
finished perfecting that night. A protection spell. They could not protect themselves, but they can
protect their daughter.
“You will not be scared, always spared,
Of anything life-threatening,
Until you reach twenty-one,
You will be protected with our blood, little one.
Seek for your mate before that time,
And forever you will be fine.”
They have just finished chanting the spell when the front door blasted open. A man covered in a
black hood and mask walked lazily inside the house.
“No need to hide. Give me the baby, if both of you want to live!” the man shouted.
The wizard got a bag inside the closet and gave it to his wife. He had prepared a get-away bag
with sets of clothes for his wife and baby. The loud bang had made the baby cry.
“Go, while I distract him. Out the window. Go on.”
“No. I can’t leave you alone. We can fight him together.”
“Not with Kimberly here. Please, honey.” The wizard pleaded. “Go.”
Both of them have tears in their eyes. And at last, the witch nodded. They hugged, hoping that it
will not be the last time. The wizard bent down to kiss his daughter.
“Hush now, Kimberly. Everything will be fine.” He nodded to his wife. “Go. Go now.”
The witch had not made it to the window when the door to the nursery slammed open. She would
have gone on. However, the warlock had shut the windows, preventing them from going out.
“And where are you going?” The warlock snarled.
“You can’t have our baby.” The wizard bravely said to the warlock.
“It’s not for you to decide, you lowly wizard.”
The witch cowered in the corner, covering her daughter with her body. She was chanting a spell,
another spell which she had only conjured only that moment. Her husband had fought with the

warlock, throwing heavy spells left and right. But no matter how fast he threw the spells and how
powerful they are, the warlock seemed not to be weakening.

“You will suffer tonight,

In our daughter’s hand.
You will never win,
Even when you are king.”

The warlock heard the chant, and in his anger, he came up with a powerful burst of energy in his
hands. He threw it at both the wizard and the witch. He knew it will be their end. But too much
energy left his body that he spurted blood. It came out through his nose, through his ears. And he
coughed up blood, too. He weakened, dropping to his knees.
“This can’t be.”
He looked at the wizard sprawled on the floor, then next to the lifeless witch in the corner. The
baby was still crying. Her hand was outstretched to him as if she had thrown a curse at him.
The warlock was heaving. He wanted to get the baby and get out of the house as soon as
possible. But before he can stand up, he could hear people arriving. He only had enough energy
to take care of himself.
“I will come back for you. You will be mine. I promise you that.”
With that, he got up from the floor. He left the room and got out of the house through the back
door and disappeared into the night.
