PIECE-WISE FUNCTIONS (5pts each)
1. A souvenir store charges PHP 15.00 per keychain for the first 50 orders. If the order exceeds to 50
keychains, the store charges PHP 12.50 per keychain for the exceeded orders of keychains. Express the total
cost K(x) of the x number of keychains as a functions of x.
2. The taxpayer should pay 10% of his total income if the income amounts to PHP 20,000 or below. If the
income is between PHP 20000 to exactly PHP 40,000, the taxpayer should pay 8% of the total income. If the
income is more than PHP 40,000, he should pay 6% of the total income. Express the tax as a function of x
for any PHP x income.
3. A souvenir store charges PHP 25.00 per bracelet for the first 75 orders or less, but the store will charge
PHP 22.50 per bracelet after the first 75 items you purchased. And after you purchased the first 175
bracelets, the store will charge PHP 20.00 per bracelet. Express the total cost K(x) of the x number of
bracelets as a function of x.
4. The post office offers flat-rate mailing of packages: P15.50 for a package weighing less than 4 oz, P22.50
for a package weighing 4 oz to less than 8 oz and P30.50 for a package weighing 8 oz to 12 oz. Write a piece-
wise function for this situation.
