About DME (Di Methyl Ether)

Dimethyl ether (DME) is a versatile compound with multiple applications. It serves as both a
propellant and coolant and offers a cleaner fuel alternative for diesel engines, delivering high
performance while emitting low levels of CO, NOx, and particulate matter during
combustion.

DME can be derived from various sources including natural gas, coal, or biomass, and it can
also be processed into valuable co-products like hydrogen, contributing to a sustainable
future energy landscape.

This compound is widely recognized for its environmentally friendly properties, making it
suitable for use as an aerosol and green refrigerant. Unlike traditional chlorofluorocarbons
(CFCs, Freon) and R-134a (HFC-134a), DME has zero ozone depletion potential and lower
global warming potentials. Furthermore, DME finds applications as a pesticide, polishing
agent, and anti-rust agent.

One notable advantage of DME is its clean fuel nature, as it has a safe storage and handling
profile without the formation of explosive peroxides. With its chemical formula CH3OCH3
and approximately 35% oxygen content, DME exhibits lower carbon monoxide and unburned
hydrocarbon emissions compared to natural gas.
