Teachers Activity Students Activity

A. Daily Routine

1. Prayer

Good morning class, may I request everyone to stand up

and let us pray.

(Name of the student), please lead the prayer. “Dear Lord, we thank you for this day and
the many blessings we have received. We
ask that you bless the work that we do here
in our class and give us patience, courage,
and perseverance to face whatever
challenges may come. Bless our teacher and
students with wisdom to learn from each
other. Amen”

Thank you, (name of the student)

2. Greetings

Good morning, class! How are you today? Good morning, Ma’am! We are feeling
great today!

That is good to hear!

3. Classroom Management

Class, before you take your seat, please arrange your (Students will arrange their chair quietly
chair quietly and properly, and pick up the pieces of and properly and pick up the pieces of
paper, candy wrapper, or any plastic under your chair. paper and plastic under their chair.)

You may now take your seats. Thank you, Ma’am.

4. Checking of Attendance

Before we proceed with our discussion, Mr. Secretary There is no absent today, ma’am.
who’s absent today?

Very good class. There is no absent today.

Likewise, if you have any concerns, or you want to

answer, just raise your hand. Do you understand, class? Yes, ma’am, we understand.

B. Review

Class, do you remember what is a cone? Yes, Ma’am!

Then what is a cone? (Raise hand)

Yes, (name of the student). A cone is a three-dimensional shape in

geometry that narrows smoothly from a flat
base to a point called the apex or vertex.

Very good, (name of the student) then the cone has no

edges. How about the elements of cone? (Raise hand)

Yes, (name of the student). The elements of a cone are its radius,
height, and slant height.
Very good, (name of the student).

Radius 'r' is defined as the distance between the center of

the circular base to any point on the circumference of the
base. The height 'h' of the cone is defined as the distance
between the apex of the cone to the center of the circular
base. The slant height 'l' is defined as the distance
between the apex of the cone to any point on the
circumference of the cone.

Good job, students! Now we can proceed to our new

topic.

C. Motivation

Before we begin our new lesson for today, I have here

pictures or equations of pictures that you need to guess,
are you ready class? Yes, ma’am!

So, let’s start!

Here’s picture number 1.

Who wants to guess? (student will guess the picture)
Very good, (name of the student).

(Present the second, third, and fourth pictures)

Good job, students!

Did you enjoy guessing pictures, class? Yes, Ma’am!

That is good to hear! Give yourselves five claps! (Claps)

Now I think you are ready for our lesson today. Are you
ready for class for the new learning? Yes, ma’am we are ready!

All right, very good!

D. Lesson Proper

From our activity, in which I let you guess the pictures

of circle, hyperbola, parabola and ellipses which are the
different types of Conic sections.

So, today we are going to discuss about conic sections

and its different types.

Who wants to read the definition of conic section?

(Raise hand)
Yes, (name of the student).
A curve, generated by intersecting a right
circular cone with a plane is termed
as ‘conic’. It has distinguished properties
in Euclidean geometry. The vertex of the
cone divides it into two nappes referred to
as the upper nappe and the lower nappe.
Thank you, (name of the student).

Conic section is a curved obtain as intersection of a cone

and with a plane.

(Present the figure A and discuss the lower nappe and

upper nappe)

Do you understand, class?

Yes, Ma’am.
Alright, let’s proceed.

(Present the figure B)

In figure B, the cone is intersected by a plane and the

section so obtained is known as a conic section.
Depending upon the position of the plane which
intersects the cone and the angle of intersection β.

Do you have any questions?

None, Ma’am.
Okay good, from what I said earlier what are the
different types of conic sections? Anyone from the
group? (Raise hand)

Yes, (name of the student) The different types of conic sections are
circle, parabola, hyperbola, and ellipses.

Very good, (name of the student).

Conic section circle, who wants to read the definition? (Raise hand)
Yes, (name of the student). (Read the definition)

Conic section circle is when the plane is horizontal and

if the plane intersected to the cone and that plane is
parallel to the base of the cone and if we plot this to the
cartesian plane, it will look like this (Draw the figure).

Do you understand, class? Yes, Ma’am

Okay good, next is conic section ellipse, what did you

observe in this picture? (show the figure of ellipse) (Students share their opinions)

Very good, class. Thank you for sharing your insights.

So, as we can observe it so much look like with the
conic section circle but no, conic section ellipse as we
can observe the plane is tilted intersect only one cone to
form a bounded curve and if we plot this to the cartesian
plane, it will look like this (Draw the figure).

Do you understand, class? Yes, Ma’am

Do you have any questions so far? None, ma’am.

Very good, let’s proceed to the conic section parabola.

Who wants to read the definition? (Raise hand)

Yes, (name of the student). (Read the definition)

Thank you, (name of the student).

So, conic section parabola is when the plane intersected

the cone and reached the base of the cone, or the plane
intersects only one cone to form an unbounded curve.
By plotting it in the cartesian plane it will look like this
(draw the figure).

Do you understand class, or do you have any questions

regarding parabola? None, Ma’am.

The last type of conic section is the conic section

hyperbola. By observing the sample figure of the
hyperbola, it looks like it is two parabolas in which the
plane intersects both nappes of the cone or it is
perpendicular to the base of the cone and by plotting it in
the cartesian plane it will look like this (draw the figure).

Do you understand, class? Yes, Ma’am!

Do you have any questions? None, Ma’am

Alright, very good!

Application

So, let’s have an activity. I will give you 5 minutes in ¼

sheet of paper list down at least 3 examples of a Circle,
Ellipse, Parabola and Hyperbola that are found in your
houses. (Students will do the activity)

Are you done, class?

Good job, class!

Do you have any clarification? None, ma’am
E. Generalization

What have you learned in today’s lesson?

(Raise hand)
Yes, (name of the students)
(Students share their thoughts)

Again, what is conic section? A curve, generated by intersecting a right

circular cone with a plane is termed
as ‘conic’. It has distinguished properties
in Euclidean geometry. The vertex of the
cone divides it into two nappes referred to
as the upper nappe and the lower nappe.

Very good, (name of the students).

How about the different types of conic sections? What

are those?
(Raise hand)
Yes, (name of the students)
The different types of conic sections are
circle, ellipses, hyperbola, and parabola.
Very good, (name of the student).

Good job, class!

Since you all understand the lesson, please get ½ sheet

of paper and answer the activity on the slides. Again, if
you have any concern regarding the activity. Just raise
your hand. Yes, ma’am
IV. Evaluation

4._____ Ellipse
CHOICES:
A. A plane that is perpendicular to the axis of the cone.
B. A plane is tilted and passes through a cone makes this conic section.
C. A plane that is parallel to the base of the cone makes this conic section.
D. A plane that is tilted and cuts through the base of the cone makes this conic section.
E. A plane that passes through both nappes vertically.
