Day 7

1. Diagram below shows 7 circles formed from a piece of wire with a length of 140 𝛑 cm. The radii of
the circles differ from each other successively by 2 cm.

Find
a. The radius, in cm, of the smallest circle.
b. The number of complete circles can be formed if the original length of wire is 200 𝛑
cm.

2. Diagram below shows the arrangement of cylinders having the same diameter, 6 cm. The height of
the first cylinder is h cm and the height of each subsequent cylinder increases by 2 cm.

a. Shows that the volume of the cylinders form an arithmetic progression.

b. Calculate the value of h if volume of the 13th cylinder is 252 𝛑 cm3.
c. Given the total volume of the three consecutive cylinders is 1 620𝛑 cm3.
Determine the height of each cylinder.
3. Diagram below shows the first three art statues in cuboid shape with the square base arranged by
Ali in his new closet.

Given that the height of the closet is 60 cm and the height of each cuboid is 5 cm more than
previous cuboid. The volumes of the cuboids form an arithmetic progression.
a. If the volume of the sixth cuboid is 4500 cm3 and the sum of volumes of the first four
cuboids are 11 000 cm3 , find the value of x and of y.
b. Ali wants to arrange 10 cuboids horizontally in a row in the closet. Can he do that? Verify
your answer by calculation.

4. Alfred bought an apartment with price RM 180 000 in year 2015. If the price for the apartment
increase 9 % per year from the buying price. In which year the price of the apartment will increase
more than two times the original price?

5. In the following sequence, every positive integer k appears k times:

1, 2, 2, 3, 3, 3, 4, 4, 4, 4, …
Determine the 2020th in the sequence.

ANS:

1.
a. 𝑟 = 4𝑐𝑚
b. 8
2.
a. 𝑑1 = 𝑑2 = 18𝝅
b. h = 4 cm
c. 𝟓𝟖 𝒄𝒎, 𝟔𝟎 𝒄𝒎, 𝟔𝟐 𝒄𝒎

3.
a. X = 10 cm; y = 20 cm
b. No, 20 + (𝑛 − 1)(5) ≤ 60

4. 13
5. 64
