Individual Oral Ten-point Outline Parameters

English Dept.

Your outline has a larger audience than just you - and thus should be
professionally presented, similar to an academic essay. The idea of the
outline is to have a guide of your main points, not every detail of your
presentation.

Please keep the following parameters in mind:

The assessor/teacher needs to be able to understand the outline

(thus no use of symbolic representations.)
No emojis, combined words, highlighting, colors, or symbols (such
as arrows or ampersands).
Each of the ten bullet points can be no longer than 3 lines, 12 point
font Times New Roman. Margins should be one inch.
The maximum word limit is 300, not including the global issue and
text titles in the upper boxes.
Use bulleted phrases. No complete sentences.
No limit on quotations (but referring to the line numbers of your
close-analysis passage can be more efficient than longer quotes).
You can use bolding, italics, parenthesis, slashes, and ellipsis - as
you would within an essay (not for symbolic purposes).
You can use an acronym for your text titles and “GI” for Global
Issue.
You should number your bullet points.
Outlines will be submitted to turnitin.com
We will collect outlines and excerpts one week before the IO session
begins. Please give us two copies of the outline and your excerpts - one
for your reference during the IO, and one for ours.
