OCCUPATIONAL HEALTH AND SAFETY ACT, 85 OF 1993

HAZARDOUS CHEMICAL SUBSTANCES REGULATIONS

The Hazardous Chemical Substances Regulations of the Occupational Health and

Safety Act (85 of 1993) requires that every employer or self-employed person who
carries out work at a workplace which may expose any person to the intake of a HCS
at that workplace to ensure that it be carried out in a safe manner.
In addition, ensure the following:
1) Keep an updated list of all Flammable liquids and Hazardous Chemical
Substances.
2) Review the list on a monthly basis.
3) Obtain the required material safety data sheets for all identified Flammable
liquids and hazardous chemical substances
