June 28, 1971, in Pretoria, South Africa. His early interests in technology and entrepreneurship
was what led him to his success. Musk is the CEO of SpaceX, CEO and product architect of
Tesla and co-founder of companies like Neuralink and The Boring Company.

His entrepreneurship journey started with a company called ZIP2, which was a company that
“provided a searchable business directory that could be described as an internet version of the
yellow pages telephone directory with maps included” (Bauer, 2018). And then Musk founded an
online financial services company called X.com which later became PayPal that to this day is
one of the most used online services to transfer money. However this was just a start for Musk
because his roles in SpaceX and Tesla have gained him the most attention and wealth. Tesla,
founded in 2003 is an electric car company that is focused on renewable energy. His vision for
this company is to transition the world to renewable energy faster, because he sees that it is a
massive problem that is creeping on the world slowly, but if changes aren’t made it will destroy
humanity and earth as we know it.

Elon’s leadership traits are characterized by his risk taking, innovations and pursuit of very
ambitious goals. He has a unique set of skills that pushes and inspires teams to achieve
objectives that were once looked at as impossible. Musk’s leadership style is a blend of
autocratic and democratic leadership style elements. He is known for making important
decisions on his own and setting high expectations. He demonstrates autocratic traits mostly in
critical and technical aspects in his company Tesla. He also displays democratic leadership
style, where he lets his employees make decisions and think of new ideas on how to solve
problems. He values the opinion of his team, and that is what makes him a great and successful
leader.

In conclusion, Elon Musk is a diverse leader that can not only make the important decisions
when needed but also he can trust the opinion of his team and that is what sets him apart from
others. Musk as an innovator and leader is always pushing the boundaries of what we consider
possible and always looking how to better the world.
