Resourcefulness and Perseverance

I. OBJECTIVES
At the end of the lesson, students are expected to
a. define volume and capacity
b. identify the units measure of volume in metric system;
c. Convert the measure of volume using metric line converter
d. participate actively in class discussion
II. LEARNING CONTENT/SUBJECT MATTER
A. Lesson: Measure of Volume
B. Reference: Casim 2: Converting the unit of measure by Kenedy Cayabyab
C. Materials: Manila Paper, colored paper, chalk and board
III. PROCEDURE
A. Daily routine
a. Prayer and Greetings
B. Preparation
a. Drill (Flash Card)
C. Development of The Lesson
1. Motivation
1. Identify the following Measuring devices?
2. What do you think the device measure?
3. What are the units of measurement for volume?
2. Lesson Proper
Measure of Volume
It is the amount of space a three-dimensional figure occupies.
Liter (L) is the basic unit of measure used in metric system for volume.

Converting units of measure for volume in metric units using Liter as the basic unit, the following
metric converter can be used.

Let’s try to Convert 1635.2 mL to L

Large volumes are measured in terms of cubic units. As in conversion of metric units of length, the
same metric converter is used to convert one unit of measure to another for volume/capacity.

This time, since volume is in terms of cubic units or solid is of three dimensions, the decimal point
will be moved thrice the number of spaces.
Examples
3. Application
Convert each of the following to the indicated unit.
1. 570 mL = ___________________ L
2. 623 cL = ___________________ L
3. 2.1 L =___________________ mL
4. 0.903 kL = ___________________ L
5. 0.003 L = ___________________ cL
6. 565 hm3 = ___________________ dam3
7. 6.7 cm3 = ___________________m3
8. 0.503 dm3 = ___________________ hm3
9. 77 dm3 = ___________________ mm3
10. 12.403 m3 = ___________________ cm3
D. Generalization
 Volume is the amount of space a three-dimensional figure occupies. Liter (L) is the basic unit of
measure used in metric system for volume. Other units are KL, hL, daL, dL, cL, and mL.
 Volume can also be measure using cubic unit such as km3 , hm3 , dam3 , m3 , dm3 , mm3
 We can convert the measure of volume with Liter as a basic unit by moving the decimal point based
on the number of arrows as the distance of the units in a metric converter.
 We can also convert the measure of volume with cubic units by moving the decimal points three
times the number of arrow as the distance of the units in a metric converter.
IV. ASSESSMENT
Convert the following using metric line converter
1. 2.4 dL = ___________________ mL
2. 300 L = ___________________ kL
3. 0.023daL = ___________________ cL
3
4. 2643dam = ___________________ km3
5. 43000000 mm3 = ___________________ m3
V. ASSIGNMENT
Answer the given problems.

1. The family has consumed 4.5 m3 of water this month. If water costs 6 pesos per Liter, how much will the
family have to pay? (1 Liter= 0.001 m3)
2. Cervantes family consumes 68 cubic meters of water a month. How many liters is it? (1 liter = 1 dm 3)
