National Seminar on Chhattisgarh Basin & its Environs: Geology, Structure, Economic &
Strategic Mineral Deposits and Future Perspective organized by AMDER, RTM Nagpur
University & GSI, August 5-6, 2022, Nagpur
Geological Map in Chhattisgarh
• A wide variety of minerals are found associated
with the different geological formations in
Chhattisgarh Basin and its neighbourhood.
• A few of them form large economic deposits
while other minerals are reported as occurrences.
• Large deposits of coal, iron ore, limestone,
bauxite, dolomite, china clay, and sand are
located in parts of the Chhattisgarh.
• Diamondiferous kimberlites identified in the
Raipur district are also likely to yield a substantial
quantity of diamonds.
• Tin (Cassiterite) bearing pegmatites containing
moderate deposits are also known.
• Medium to small deposits of gold, base-metals,
quartzite, talc/soapstone/steatite, fluorite, corundum,
graphite, fire clay lepidolite, amblygonite of workable
size need detailed exploration to categorise them as
large deposits.
• Occurrences of amethyst, andalucite, beryl, garnet,
kyanite, sillimanite, and rare precious mineral
alexandrite are also reported from different parts of
the State.
• A few of these may prove to be of sizable deposit.
• Deposits of grey, pink, red, and black (dolerite,
amphibolite, and gabbro), granites, and flagstone of
grey, black and purple shades are widely distributed
that are suitable for dimension/building stone and
decorative purposes.

large variety of mineral deposits.
• Chhattisgarh has the perfect geological set up to host a number of
economic mineral deposits.
• State is the richest in number of economic mineral deposits and richest in
mineral wealth in country.
• Important minerals with which the name of the State is intimately
associated are Diamond, Coal, Iron ore, Limestone, Dolomite, Bauxite and
Tin ore.
• Chhattisgarh is the sole producer of tin concentrates and moulding sand.
• Atomic minerals and precious metal gold also occur in the State.
• Other minerals include corundum, clay, quartzite, base metals, fluorite,
beryl, andalusite, kyanite, sillimanite, talc, soapstone, and garnet.
