HIGHLIGHTS OF ACTIVITY:

The Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources 10 thru the Provincial Fisheries Office of Misamis
Oriental conducted training on fisheries post-harvest processing on tilapia tilanggit and lamayo in
Lagonglong, Mis. Or. at the Covered Court, Kauswagan, Lagonglong, Mis. Or. last October 12-13,
2023.

Fishermen’s Association of Kauswagan beneficiaries completed a two-day tilapia post-harvest training


under the Special Area for Agricultural Development (SAAD) Program.

The first day of the activity started at 8:00AM. In behalf of the OIC, PFO MOR Arlene B. Novo, the
Alternate OIC, Che A. Sy gave the opening remarks and rationale on the activity. OIC PHMS, Mary Joy
Tac-an, shared her knowledge and expertise on Sanitation Standard Operating Procedure (SSOP),
Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), Food Safety, and Sustainability Planning before the participants
dove into the tilapia processing procedures. In the afternoon, Rejomar Galleros also presented
instructions of the process and technique in making tilapia products from their fresh state to the
packaging, labeling, costing, and marketing aspects of the activity.

On the second day, is the hands-on demonstration, demonstrated by Provincial Fisheries Office of
Misamis Oriental (PFO Mis.Or.) staff, Villaflora Rosos, has led the association’s to the creation of two
intricate, delectable products, the "Tilanggit" and "Lamayo," ensuring sustainable livelihoods for the
local fishing community. According to a representative, the lectures and hands-on demonstration will be
a big help on their livelihood which is the only Tilapia Culture in Pond project under SAAD Project in
PFO Mis. Or.

Municipal Agriculturist, Albert Gabutan gave his heartfelt appreciation to the bureau for its persistence
in uplifting the economic state of fishing communities in the said town. He said that the commitment and
willingness to learn of individual members, from the benefactors will lead to the success of the
organization. The activity ended at 5:00 PM.
