Articles

 You place an article before a noun and / or an adjective and a noun.

Definite article “the”

 “The” is a definite article. Write it before a noun that you specify.


o Ex.: Bring me the green chair.

Indefinite articles “a / an”

 “A / an” are indefinite articles. Write them before a noun that is used in
general way.
o Ex.: Bring me a green chair.
 Write “a” before a word that begins with a consonant.
o I read a book.
 Write “an” before a word that begins with a vowel.
o I write an email.

No articles

 Don’t write articles in front of plural nouns when they are used in e general
way.
o Electric cars are very expensive.
o Children have to go to school.
 Don’t write “the” before names of places: lakes, single mountain,
continents, states, provinces, cities, some countries, streets, unless it
comes with a specification.
o Ex.: I like to go to Mont Orford. / The Mont Orford ski centre is big.
o Ex.: St-Jean Street is beautiful. / The St-Jean Street restaurants are
expensive.
