A. Objective

To be able to assess performance in terms of intensity of the modified version compared with
the original fragrance.

Test Description

To compare Intensity in Neat, During Washing, 30 minutes After Washing of the White
Classic and White Classic Mod 1 using an affective test.

Test to show parity in Intensity performance of the modified version vs original fragrance.

Panelists

N=15

Samples

Classic White in 1.5% in soap base

Classic White Mod 1 in 1.5% in soap base

Test Methods

Samples were prepared in 1.5% in soap base. Panelists were asked to evaluate the intensity
of the samples in 3 different stages – in Neat, During Wash and 30 minutes After Wash.

Through Hedonic Scale, see Legend below for intensity (Table 1). Panellists were asked to
put a rating which they feel best describe the strength of the sample.

Samples were coded uniquely in 3 random digit numbers (624, 183).

Sample test Form in Table 3.

Table 1: Legend Intensity

9 – Extremely strong 6 – Slightly strong 3 – Moderately weak

8 – Very strong 5 – Neither strong nor weak 2 – Very weak

7 – Moderately strong 4 – Slightly weak 1 – Extremely weak

Summary of Result: Table 2

FRAGRANCES:

624 = White Classic

183 = White Classic Mod 1

Samples Neat Ave During 30 Mins After OVERALL AVE

Wash Ave Wash Ave

624 7.33 7.13 4.80 6.42

183 7.33 7.07 5.20 6.53

Result shows both samples 624 and 183 are parity in terms of intensity or strength in Neat
and During Wash stages.

Sample 183 is stronger or more long lasting after 30 minutes of washing.

Conclusion: Sample 183 as White Classic Mod 1 performs parity to the original fragrance as
shown in overall performance.

INTENSITY TEST

Name: ____________________ Date: ____________________

Age: ______________________ Sex: ____________________
Characteristic studied: INTENSITY/LONG-LASTINGNESS IN SOAP

Instructions:
1. Smell the soap samples and rate the INTENSITY of the fragrance. Place a rate (1-9) in NEAT Box which you feel best describe the
strength of the sample. Wait for at least 5-10 seconds in smelling between samples, smell coffee beans in case of sensory fatigue.

2. USAGE TEST - Wet arm/hand and gently rub soap sample for 20-30 times to make a foam/suds. Smell the foam and rate the
INTENSITY. Place your answer in DURING WASHING Box which you feel best describe the strength of the fragrance. Stand for 1 minute
before rinsing.

3. Rinse thoroughly with tap water until its soap free. Dry your arms/hands with paper towel. Smell your washed skin after 30 minutes.
Rate the intensity of the fragrance retention on your skin.

* Please avoid fragrance contamination during and after washing time.
