Barr, Sabrina. ¨Writer Reveals Cover Of Children's Book Celebrating Black Hair.¨ Independent

Digital News & Media, 19 Dec, 2018.

The purpose of this article is to broaden the idea of equality in all levels of life but especially in
children's books. The Portrayal of African American families in children's platforms is
something that needs to increase. The cover of one of the specific books in this article shows a
child flaunting and smiling with her big coily hair and it shows us how she laughs and spends
time with her father. This article also highlights the stereotypical disparities with black fathers
and their children. It has been determined by the world that black fathers are not a part of their
kids lifes in the ways that matters. Therefore, the author of this up and coming children's book
uses their platform to change the stereotypes in the eyes of kids so that they can influence the
next generation and possibly change many of the negative views on African American culture.

Essien, Idara. ¨I Love My Hair: The Weaponing Of Black Girls Hair By Educators In Early

Childhood Education.¨ Early Childhood Education Journal, vol. 49, no. 3, May, 2021.

The purpose of this source is to talk about a lot of the history of African American culture. We´re
taught about a lot of the biases within our own community when it comes to the length or size of
hair. African American women were taught at a young age to deep fry their hair in order to
conform to many of the societal standards. This occured to the point where knowledge on how to
take care of and maintain healthy hair is unknown. When looking at a child's perspective of their
hair, they want what is known as ¨Good hair¨, like what is highlighted on tv, even though it is
unknown the cost to achieve hair of this magnitude. Readers get the opportunity to see how with
time, changes occur within stereotypes and with that comes people who must be willing to make
the effort to educate themselves and others.

Lessons.¨ Star Press, 28 Feb, 2022.

The significance of this source is to provide a unique perspective on the behalf of white parents
who come into contact with coily haired children. This article helps people to better understand
what it is like to style and maintain African American hair. It is often seen that people take the
wrong approach to coily hair, so we are able to get a realistic and honest testimony to the
different ways people become increasingly adapted. The majority of this article can be used for
kids to better understand how to better take care of their own hair as they become of age. Curly
haired children are given the ability to appreciate their hair and not feel forced to use products to
permanently change it due to influences from outside influences.

Reilly Emma. ¨Celebrating Black Hair: Hamiltonians Esther Adjekum And Shaneece Jeffers Are

Hosting This City's First Black Hair Brunch.¨ The Hamilton Spectator, 09 Aug, 2018.

The purpose of this article is to highlight the events that surround African American hair. 4c hair
is no longer something that we hide and change, but rather something that should be celebrated.
The event that occurs in this article took a lot of intricate planning that changes the perspective
as to what is acceptable hair. This event was known as the, ¨Black Hair Brunch.¨ We are also able
to get perspectives of others' experiences going through elementary to middle school when it
comes to dealing with the stigma around their natural hair. Last but not least, I can use this article
to describe the versatility of African American hair and scarce beneficial supplies that our hair
requires.

Terry, Ruth. ¨Black Hairstyles: Is legislation Needed To Protect Against Discrimination?¨ CQ

The significance of this article is its ability to give an insight to increasingly more history of
black hair alongside its adaptability. Black people have been forced to uphold a dress code with
their hair in places of work and even schools. Throughout this article we get personal testimonies
that paint a personal view of the development of hair care. Last but not least, this article goes into
the impact from the civil rights movement and the importance of hair such as the afro in many
highly televised situations, all the way into modern day top of the charts celebrities. This article
will give me an amplitude of information to contribute to the portion of my story that relates to
the natural hair movement and learning to grow hair care methods as we grow and develop.
