to that fluid, the vendor shall ensure that the pump and its accessories
shall be able to operate without deterioration during the performance test
with water. Performance tests at reduced speeds shall require Purchaser
written approval prior to any purchase order.

6.1.3.7 (Modification) Vendor shall furnish the temperature and pressure profiles
according to Annex K with the proposal. The temperature versus
pressure profile throughout the pump must be above the vapor pressure
curve at all locations in the flow path for all conditions and with a
sufficient margin as per the below:
a) For liquid with vapor pressure at rated temperature of less than or
equal 2 b a r a ( 30 psia), a minimum of 3 meter (10 feet) margin is
required.
b) For liquid with vapor pressure more than 2 bara (30 Psia), a
minimum of 5 meter (16 feet ) margin is required.
6.1.4 (Clarification) When the specific gravity of the fluid being pumped is less
than 1, at the pumping temperature, the vendor shall ensure that the pump
and its accessories are able to operate without deterioration during the
performance test with water. Performance tests at reduced speeds shall
require Company written approval prior to any purchase order.

6.1.6 (Clarification) The proposed rated impeller diameter for pumps with
constant-speed drives shall be not be greater than 95% or less than 80% of
the maximum impeller diameter that can be installed in the pump casing.
For pumps with variable speed drives, the impeller diameter giving the
maximum efficiency shall be selected. If this results in the selected
impeller diameter being the maximum for the chosen casing, then the
driver and pump shall be capable of the speed increase necessary to give a
5% increase in head (per API STD 685 clause 6.1.6) and to correct any
head shortfall during testing, including the tolerance per table 11.

6.1.12 For all pumps, the vendor shall indicate on the pump performance curve,
the NPSH3 curve for 3% reduction in differential head. For variable
speed applications, the vendor shall also indicate on the pump
performance curve the NPSH3 curve for the maximum speed required to
meet the process conditions specified in the pump data sheet.

The NPSH requirements shall not exceed the specified NPSH available
over the range of minimum continuous stable capacity to 120% of the
rated capacity. At rated capacity, the NPSHA shall also exceed the
NPSH3 as per the following:

The present document or drawing is property of SAUDI ARABIAN OIL COMPANY and TOTAL RAFFINAGE CHIMIE S.A. and
shall not, under any circumstances, be totally or partially, directly or indirectly, transferred, reproduced, copied, disclosed or

a) For pumps where the heated fluid from the drive section is recycled
back to the pump suction, there shall be a minimum NPSH margin of
3 feet (1 meter) or 20% (i.e. NPSHA is 120% of NPSH3), whichever
is higher. The vendors shall consider the effect of recycled liquid
from the drive section which will cause an increase the vapor
pressure and reduction in the NPSHA.
b) For pumps where the heated fluid from the drive section is sent to
the discharge or to an intermediate pressure point, a minimum
NPSH margin of 1 meter (3 feet ) is required.
c) For pumps handling a product containing greater than 2% by
volume dissolved gas/air or when ΔTv lower than 15°C (27°F), the
difference between the required NPSH (NPSHR) and the available
NPSH (NPSHA) at the rated point shall be greater than 1.5 metres
(5 feet) or 35% of the available NPSH (NPSHA) whichever is the
greatest
d) For critical pumps or pumps operating in parallel, the difference
between the NPSHA and NPSHR at the rated point shall not be less
than 1 meter (3 feet).

For variable speed pumps, the above NPSH requirements apply for all
speeds required to meet the specified operating conditions.

6.1.13 The Vendor shall indicate, in the proposal, the value of the suction
specific speed for the pumps proposed. Suction specific speeds, without
inducer, shall be limited as indicated in the table below.

This does not allow the second pump to be outside the contractual
performance limits.
• b) The head at 50% of rated operating point flow shall be at least
110% of the head at the rated operating point.

The use of a discharge orifice for pump with driver rated power of more
than 110 kW (150 HP) is not permitted unless approved by Company.

6.1.16 Unless accepted by Company, the capacity at the end of the curve shall not
be less than 120% of the rated capacity. Normal flow shall not be less
than 70% of BEP. The minimum continuous stable capacity shall not
exceed 50% of the rated capacity.

6.1.17 Control of the sound pressure level to meet the specified requirements
shall be the responsibility of the vendor and purchaser.

shall be agreed upon by the purchaser.

If cooling is required, one of the plans in Annex D, ASME B73.3 or

Hydraulic Institute HI 5.1-5.6 shall be selected. Other manufacturer plans
may also be used subject to review and approval of Company.

The cooling system shall be suitable for operation with the coolant type,
pressure, and temperature specified in the purchase order. The vendor shall
specify the required flow. To avoid condensation, the minimum inlet water
temperature to bearing housings should be above the ambient air
temperature.

Rotor housing jacket shall be fully cleanable

Plan BS and Plan KS shall be submitted to Company approval.

If external flush source is used to cool the driver section, recycling to

pump suction will be acceptable subject that the NPSH margin for the
mixed liquid at the pump suction meets the requirement in 6.1.12.

The maximum magnets operating temperatures shall be limited to 85%

of the temperature values in degree C stated in API STD 685 Table I.1.
