1-Protect the public safety, health, and

Engineers shall hold paramount the safety, health, and welfare

of the public. Under this canon an engineer is expected not only

to protect the public in his or her own work, but also to take

action if he or she has knowledge that any other person’s

actions may undermine the public welfare

Perform duties only in areas of competence:

• Engineers shall not affix their signatures to any plans or

documents dealing with subject matter in which they lack

competence, nor to any plan or document not prepared

under their direction and control

• Engineers may accept assignments and assume

responsibility for coordination of an entire project and

sign and seal the engineering documents for the entire

project, provided that each technical segment is signed

and sealed only by the qualified engineers who prepared

Engineers shall issue public statements only in an objective

and truthful manner. Engineers shall be objective and

truthful in professional reports, statements, or testimony.

They shall include all relevant and pertinent information in

such reports, statements, or testimony, which should bear

the date indicating when it was current

so that the public trust and the good faith of engineering

decline in client-engineer trust evidenced by a loss of

autonomy and professional control over the engineering

product

6- Provide honest hard work to employers

and clients:

1. Engineers shall be guided in all their

relations by the highest standards of

honesty and integrity.

2. Engineers shall acknowledge their errors

and shall not distort or alter the facts

employers when they believe a project will not be

successful.

4. Engineers shall not accept outside employment

to the detriment of their regular work or

interest. Before accepting any outside

engineering employment, they will notify their

employers

engineer from another employer by false or

misleading pretenses.

6. Engineers shall not promote their own interest

at the expense of the dignity and integrity of the

profession.

7. Engineers shall treat all persons with dignity,

respect, fairness and without discrimination.

Inform the proper authorities of harmful or

illegal activities.

If you see or suspect unethical or illegal activity, report it

immediately to the authorities. You may even communicate

anonymously if you choose.

Some common examples of unethical or illegal activity include:

• Conflicts of interest

• Accounting or auditing irregularities

• Theft

Engineers should be committed to improving the

environment to enhance the quality of life. Environmental

protection is a global problem. This problem can't almon

be solved by the government. People's participation is

essentially required for this purpose as ultimately

everything is in the interest of mankind. The industry is

mainly responsible for environmental pollution and such as,

it has to play major role in protecting the environment.

Engineer plays important role towards environmental

protection as is evident from the following points :-

• has less chances of atmosphere pollution

• capacity to absorb pollutants.

premises for the disposal of poisonous waste material

[4]. He can plan such a short route of disposal of pollutants in

natural stream or rivers that the habitation and vegetation is

least affected.

10-Do not accept bribes (or gifts that

would interfere with judgment)

1. Engineers shall be scrupulously honest in their

control and spending of monies intended for the

projects on which they are engaged.

2. Engineers shall adopt a zero-tolerance approach

for bribery, fraud, deception and corruption in any

design or construction work in which they are

engaged.

‫أو أعمال التصمٌم أو البناء التً ٌعملون فٌها‬

3. Engineers should be especially vigilant in countries

where payment of gratuities and/or bribery are

tolerated and condoned practices.

4. Engineers should include certifications in all

contract documents specifying zero tolerance of

bribery, extortion or other fraud during the

procurement and execution of the project.

5. Engineers must strive for complete transparency in

the engagement of agents who facilitate projects and

other work, to include the reporting of purposes,

names, addresses, and gratuities and commissions

paid for all agents in their employ.

6. Engineers shall be duty-bound by the ASCE bylaws

to report any observed violations of the Society’s

Code of Ethics.

‫‪ٌ.‬دفع عن جمٌع الوكالء فً وظائفهم‬

‫‪ٌ ASCE‬جب أن ٌكون المهندسون ملزمٌن بواجب لوائح ‪6.‬‬

11-Protect confidential information of

employer or client.

Engineers shall not reveal facts, data, or information

without the prior consent of the client or employer

except as authorized or required by law or this Code.

While being associated with an organization, an

engineer is expected to follow the moral rules and

avoid affecting the intellectual properties of anyone

12-Avoid conflict of interest :Engineers shall act in

professional matters for each employer or client as

faithful agents or trustees, and shall avoid conflicts of

interest:

a. Engineers shall avoid all known conflicts of interest

with their employers or clients of any business

association, interests, or circumstances, which could

influence their judgment or the quality of their

services

b. Engineers shall not accept compensation, financial

or otherwise, from more than one party for services

on the same project, nor for services pertaining to

the same project, unless the circumstances are fully

disclosed to, and agreed to, by all interested parties.

c. Engineers shall not solicit nor accept financial or

other valuable considerations, including free

engineering designs, from material or equipment

suppliers for specifying their products

d. Engineers shall not solicit nor accept gratuities,

directly or indirectly, from contractors, their agents, or

other parties dealing with their clients or employers in

connection with work for which they are responsible.

e. When in public service as members, advisors, or

employees of a governmental body or department,

Engineers shall not participate in considerations or

actions with respect to services provided by them or

their organization in private or product engineering

practice.

f. Engineers shall not solicit nor accept an engineering

contract from a governmental body on which a principal,

officer of employee of their organization serves as a

member.

g. When, as a result of their studies, Engineers believe a

project will not be successful, they shall so advise their

employer or client
