Chapter 2 Test Form A AP Calculus AB

Show all work, round decimal answers must be accurate to at least the thousandths place, include units if applicable, and
include the graph if a graph was used in the solution of the problem.

3. Use the Intermediate Value Theorem to answer the following question: Is any real number exactly two more than its
cube?

4. A pool is being filled with water using a hose starting at 10:00 AM. The amount of water in the pool at any time can
2
be measured using the following function: A(t) = 3t + 10t + 8, for 0 ≤ t ≤ 10. The amount of water is measured in
gallons, the time used is hours.

a. Find the average rate at which water is being poured into the pool from 11:00 AM to 3:30 PM.

b. Use a proximity of .001 to estimate the instantaneous rate at which water is flowing into the pool at 2:00 PM.

c. Use limits to find the exact rate at which water is flowing into the pool at 2:00 PM.

5x - 12k x ≤ 2
-4kx - 10 x > 2
