GROUP PROJECT TOPICS: 30 MARKS

1. Prepare and contrast the cost plan of a 5 star hotel vis a vis a
hospital. Using relevant examples, prepare the budget, financial
statement and cash flow projections for each of the projects.
2. Discuss the sources of cost information during design and
construction periods clearly indicating its collection, processing
and retrieval. Also discuss their merits and demerits.
3. With the aid of relevant examples, discuss building cost indices,
types, their construction/compilation and uses. Also discuss the
application and sources of building indices in Kenya.

4.Discuss the approximate estimating methods clearly ranking

them in order of accuracy including their merits, demerits and their
application.
5.Using relevant examples, discuss the application of cost planning
principles from inception to completion of a building project. Cite
reasons for cost overruns during the pre and post contract stages
that may result from the failure to carry out proper cost planning
of construction projects.
