DETAILED LESSON PLAN

I. SUBJECT MATTER:
1. Topic: Measurement of Temperature

II. LEARNING OBJECTIVES:

At the end of the period, the students must be able to:
1. Cognitive:
a. Determine whether the given temperature is in Degree Celsius or in Degree Fahrenheit.
b. Convert Degree Celsius to Degree Fahrenheit and vice-versa.
2. Affective:
a. Enjoy converting the measurement of temperature from Celsius to Fahrenheit and vice-versa.
3. Psychomotor:
a. Demonstrate how to convert the measurement of temperature from Celsius to Fahrenheit and
vice-versa.

III. TEACHING STRATEGIES/METHODOLOGY:

1. Discovery Approach
2. Cooperative Learning Approach

IV. REFERENCES/MATERIALS:
1. Reference: Grade 7, DepEd Module, Mathematics Quarter 2, Reading and Measuring
Temperature using Thermometer
2. Materials: Thermometer or Thermal Scanner, Chalk, Eraser

V. INSTRUCTIONAL PROCEDURES:

TEACHER’S ACTIVITY STUDENT’S ACTIVITY

Preliminaries:
 Greetings:
Good Morning Class!
 Prayer:
Please Stand up and let us pray. The student will stand and pray
 Checking of Attendance

A. Developmental Activity:
(HOTS arts of Questioning)

Do you know that we can measure the temperature Yes Ma’am!

of things?

Like for example, during the pandemic we have this Yes Sir, especially during the pandemic, we always
thermometer or thermal scanner to measure our measures our body temperature with thermometer
body temperature. Right? Do you happen to so that we can see whether we have flu or not.
experience this on measuring your own body
temperature? Even when you feel sick?

Even the daily temperature or humidity of the day Yes Sir!

can be measured with measuring instruments. We often see this on News.
Right? Have you observe this on the television
during weather forecast? Where the reporter tells
us the measurement of the temperature?

MOTIVATION:
(Letting the students measure their temperature
using the thermal scanner)

So now, I want each one of you to measure your (The students will fall in line and have their body
body temperature with this thermal scanner. temperature measured with thermal scanner)
Please fall in line and start measuring your body
temperature
So who among you has the highest and lowest body The class will name their classmate who has the
temperature? highest and lowest body temperature.

What have you observed with the result of Sir, there is a symbol of “°C” in our temperature
measuring your body temperature?

So what do you think that symbol represents as? Degree Celsius Sir

Very Good!

B. LESSON PROPER (Discussion and Engagement using

Discovery and Cooperative-Learning Approach)

Do you know that there are many unit of measure in

temperature and not just Degree Celsius? No Sir

The unit of measure in temperature is not just

Celsius but there are also Fahrenheit and Kelvin. (The students will be surprise)

But today we are going to study only the Celsius and

Fahrenheit.

When we say Celsius, this is the unit of measure in

which the water freezes at Zero degree and boils at
100 degrees. The symbol of measurement in Celsius
is just like what you saw earlier on the thermal
scanner.

And what symbol is that again?

“°C” (Degree Celsius)
Very Good!

So how about in Fahrenheit? What is the symbol

unit of measure of it? I think Ma’am, it has a symbol of "°F”

Yes! Fahrenheit uses the symbol °F which read as

Degree Fahrenheit.

So if Celsius is the unit of measure in which the

water freezes at Zero degree and boils at 100
degrees, what about the Fahrenheit? Do you have The degree Fahrenheit is the unit in which the water
any idea? freezes to 32°F and boils at 212°F

Very Good!

So now with this definition of Celsius and

Fahrenheit, we can now be able to understand
much better how this two are related, and with this
we can easily covert this two unit of measure with
each other using these formulas:

Converting degree Celsius to Fahrenheit:

9
F= C +32
5

Converting degree Fahrenheit to Celsius:

5(F−32)
C=
9
Where F= Fahrenheit, C=Celsius

So for Example;

1. Convert 150 Degrees Fahrenheit to Celsius

So what formula will we use? 5(F−32)

C=
9

Okay, So now let’s substitute the given data to 5(150−32)

convert this Fahrenheit to Celsius. C=
9
So now let’s simplify
5(118)
C=
9

590
C=
9

C=65.5
So what is the answer?
65°C Ma’am

How about if we convert Celsius to Fahrenheit?

What formula will we use? 9
F= C +32
5

So how do we convert this?

For example, Mr. Duterte brings a glass of water
with temperature of 20°C, What is the measure of
this temperature in Degree Fahrenheit?

So first, What is the formula that we will use again 9

F= C +32
in converting Celsius to Fahrenheit? 5

Now let’s substitute the given data to convert this

Celsius to Fahrenheit. (9)(80)
F= +32
5

So by simplifying we can now obtain the answer. 720

F= +32
5

F=144+ 32

F=176

So what is 20°C in Fahrenheit?

176°F Sir!
Very Good!

Another Example:
The temperature of coffee is 70°C, What is the
measure of this temperature in Fahrenheit?

In this problem, what formula will we use?

9
F= C +32
5
So let’s now convert 70°C to Fahrenheit.
(9)(70)
F= + 32
5

630
F= +32
5
F=126+32

F=158
What is the measurement of 70°C in Fahrenheit?

Very Good. 158°F Sir!

C. ACTIVITY (BOARDWORK)

Convert the following measurement of

temperature.

1. 120°C to Fahrenheit (9)(120)

2. 75°F to Celsius 1.) F= + 32
5
3. 95°C to Fahrenheit
4. 300°F to Celsius (9)(120)
5. 28°F to Celsius F= + 32
5

F=216+32

F=248°

5(75−32)
2.) C=
9

(215)
C=
9

C=23.89°

3.)
(9)(95)
F= +32
5

F=171+32

F=203 °

4.)
5(300−32)
C=

1340
C=
9

C=148.89 °

5.)
5(300−32)
C=
9
−20
C=
9

C=−2.22 °

D. ANALYSIS

So based on what we have studied, how can we If the measurement has a symbol of “°C” then it is in
know if the measurement is in Celsius or Celsius. And if the measurement has a symbol of “°F”
Fahrenheit? then the unit of measure is in Fahrenheit

What is the formula in converting Fahrenheit to 5(F−32)

Celsius? C=
9

How about converting Celsius to Fahrenheit? 9

F= C +32
5

E. ABSTRACTION/GENERALIZATION

So, it is easy to convert temperature from Celsius to Yes Sir!

Fahrenheit. Right?

So if the symbol of unit of measure of temperature Celsius, Ma’am!

is “°C”, what unit of temperature is this again?

How about if “°F” It’s in Fahrenheit, Sir!

And what is the formula again in converting 5(F−32)

Fahrenheit to Celsius? C=
9

How about converting the Celsius to Fahrenheit? 9

F= C +32
