Important Notices
TRENDset is the analysis software for respiratory therapy decvises pro-
duced by the company HOFFRICHTER GmbH.
Its main functions are the analysis of therapeutic data and remote
adjustment of the device parameters.
This software is used in the sleep laboratory by medical personal and
by the service.

Installing Software
There are two options for installing TRENDset: NOTE:
1. Installation from CD TRENDset can only be installed
with administrator rights.
2. Download from the HOFFRICHTER-Homepage
www.hoffrichter.de

Installating from CD
Insert the CD in your computer´s optical drive. The Setup will start up
automatically if the Autorun-Function is active. Follow the installation
instructions.
If the .NET-Framework is not installed on your computer, you will be
asked to install the .NET-Framework. Follow the installation instructions.

Installing the Download Version


Execute the TRENDset.zip.exe and unpack the files. The installation
will start automatically.
If the .NET-Framework is not installed on your computer, you will be
asked to install the .NET-Framework. Follow the installation instructions.

Connecting the Device with the Computer


1. Connect the 9pin D-Sub plug1 of the serial cable to the COM interface
of your computer.
2. Connect the RJ11 plug (2) to the device.
3. Connect the device to a grounded contact outlet using the delivered
power cord.

Starting TRENDset
1. When you start TRENDset, the “Intro Window” appears.
TRENDset searches automatically for connected devices.

mouse click. Afterwards starts the data import. This process
will take at most 50 seconds. TRENDset changes to the status
Online (see page 14). If no device has been detected under Found
devices no devices will be displayed and TRENDset remains in
the status Offline (see page 14). All programming and analysis func-
tions remain deactivated.

You can also open an existing file. Just click on File. Furthermore you
can read-in data from the SD-card. Just click on Read SD-Card. If TRENDset is connected
with a device, the status
message Online appears.

The menu bar contains all menus and menu items needed to operate
TRENDset.

In the status bar you will find information about the connection status,
the selected function area and the type of the connected device.

TRENDset is subdivided into 6 function areas:

After the program starts, the function area for Patient Data is always
opened.
If you select another function area, the display in the work area will
change.

NOTE:
The number of function areas and the display in the work area depend
on the type of device.

Working with Files


Opening Files
Select File > Open or in the symbol bar.
Use Ctrl+O to open a file
The dialogue box Open will appear with the preset pathway Own Files quickly.
(Documents)/ TRENDset. The folder TRENDset will be generated the first
time the program is started and will be the standard folder for saving
all files belonging to TRENDset. It can only open files with the exten-
sion .csw or .csa.
Before a new file is opened, TRENDset first checks whether or not all
open data have been saved.
As soon as a file has been opened, TRENDset switches into the sta-
tus Offline.

Close File
Select File > Close or in the symbol bar.
Closing causes all displayed data from the connected device or file to
be lost. If changes have not already been sent to the device, you will
be prompted to save the changes.
After closing, the status will change from Online to Offline.

Save
Select File > Save or in the symbol bar. Use Ctrl+S to save a file
quickly.
The files will be saved in the folder Own Files (Documents)/TRENDset
with the extension .csw.

Save as
With command Save as you can save the open file under another name
or in another directory.

Quit TRENDset
Select File > Exit.
Before quitting, TRENDset checks whether all data have been saved.
If you have not already sent your changes to the device, you will be
prompted to save.

Print

Select File > Print or in the symbol bar. Use Ctrl+P for printing a file

Setting the Language for TRENDset
Select Settings > Language.
You can choose from several languages. If you need an additional lan-
guage, contact our service. The selection of available languages can
be expanded at any time.

Registration and Deregistration for Service


Personnel
This menu items enables the access to the program’s service area. The
service area offers special actions and additional device data. The access
is password-protected so that only authorized personnel have access.
Registration
Select Settings > Service > Log in.
1. Enter your username.
2. Enter your password.
3. If the service area should be displayed each TRENDset is started,
activate the check box.
4. Confirm with OK.
Deregistration
Select Settings > Service > Log out.

Search Device Manually


If multiple devices have been connected to your computer, apart of the
automatic device search function, you may have access to a particular
system by manual selecting of the respective COM-PORT.

Select Communication > Manual Device Search.


1. Select the COM-Port to which the device is connected.
2. TRENDset searches for a connected device.
a. When a device is detected, the data import starts. This pro-
cess will take at most 50 seconds.
b. If no device is detected, the message “No Connection to Ther-
apy Device” appears. Confirm this with OK. Select another
COM-Port and confirm again with OK. Repeat this procedure
until TRENDset has found the device.
3. TRENDset changes to the status Online (see page 14).

If no device is detected, TRENDset remains in the status Offline (see


page 14). All programming and analysis functions remain deactivated.

Save Data from SD-Cards

FLEX Level The level of pressure increase or decrease is depending on
the flow of breath, the FLEX Levels set and the therapeutic
pressure setting. The three FLEX Levels (1- 3) are for individ-
ual adjustment to the patient.

Select Device Settings > Softstart Ramp/Mask Test.

Definition of Terms
Softstart Time Time during which the pressure gradually increases
to therapeutic pressure, beginning at the starting
pressure for soft start or at minimum pressure.
Softstart Start Pressure Starting pressure for soft start
Mask Test In a mask test the device is operated at maximum
therapeutic pressure for the time selected in order
to test the tightness of mask. The maximum ther-
apeutic pressure results from the settings in the
function area Device Settings.

Activate/Deactivate Mask Alarm


Select Device Settings > Mask Alarm.
You activate or de-activate the mask alarm using the On / Off button.

Pressure Ramp Soft increase in pressure when pressure changes
Heating Step Selection of the heating level of the humidifier
Menu Type Menu, which displayed in the device
Activate PIN Code When you activate the check box, you can enter a four-digit PIN Code. Once you
have sent the PIN Code to the device, you can only change the device’s pressure
parameters and mode after entering the correct PIN Code.
Automatic • Automatic Threshold On
The first value indicates inspiration, the second value expiration.
These values must be exceeded for the therapy to start.
• Automatic Threshold Off
The pressure must fall below this value for the therapy to stop.
• Automatic Delay
Time after which the therapy is automatically stop when the pressure drops
below the threshold value.
Mask Type Selection of the mask type in use
Intro Text The intro text is shown when the device starts. It can be a maximum of 2 lines of 16
characters each. You can choose from several pre-defined texts or enter your own
text. Select the check box Other text.
Menu Scrolling Here you can set whether scrolling is allowed in the menu or not.

Working with the Parameter-Popup


The Parameter-Popup is a small dialogue box which contains the essen-
tial functions from Device Settings.

Select Settings > Parameter-Popup or in the symbol bar.


The user interface will close and the Parameter-Popup will open. The
advantage: You can use TRENDset and other applications on the screen
at the same time and continue to control the device.
You can only use the Parameter-Popup in the Status Online and DATA box.
If necessary you can change the position and size of the Parameter-
Popup. Hold down the mouse and drag the edges of the window.
To close the Parameter-Popup and return to the usual user interface
panel, click on the “x” on the upper right.

Therapy Memory
Approximately 20 days of therapy are stored in the Therapy Memory.

Compliance Memory
When the Therapy Memory is full, the older data are transferred to the
Compliance Memory. The Compliance Memory stores data for approxi-
mately 1 year.
The data from the Compliance Memory are only displayed in the Ther-
apy Calendar and in the protocol from the Therapy Calendar. There
is no display or evaluation of these data in the function area Data and
Events or Statistics.

Select Therapy Days for Statistics


To evaluate the therapy data in the function areas Data and Events as
well as in Statistics, mark the desired therapy days. Click on the sym-
bol to the right of the date.

If you want to select all therapy days, activate the control box Select
all displayed Days.
Additionally, you can decide whether or not therapy-free days will be
displayed in the Therapy Calendar. Activate the check box Display Days
without Therapy in Addition.
After you have marked the therapy days, you can switch to the func-
tion area Data and Events or Statistics and evaluate the data for the
marked therapy days.
The Complete Using Time in h and the Average Using Time per Day in h
are seen in the lower part of the workspace.

Pressure Pressure in patient’s mask


Respiratory Flow Patient’s flow
Average Flow which escapes from the exhalation valve. In a leakage,
System Flow i.e. if the mask slips out of face, the flow will increase.
Relative Respira- The relative volume of breath is calculated from the

Central Sleep A central apnea is indicated if, in addition to a limitation of air-

Mixed Sleep A mixed apnea is indicated if the apnea consists of a central
Apnea and an obstruction portion and there is no normal breathing
between the two portions.
Hypopnea A hypopnea is indicated if an airflow limitation lasts for at least
5 sec.
Airway An airway constriction is indicated if the resistance of the upper
Constriction airway stays above a threshold value for at least 3 sec.
Snoring A snoring phase is indicated if snoring noises stay above a
threshold value for at least 2 sec.

This assures that all selected days in the Therapy Calendar are included
(see page 57).
The sum of events is shown in the diagrams.
The number of selected days can be seen under the check box. The
value in brackets shows the ratio of selected days to total therapy days
in percent.

Click on Statistical Analysis.
The overview includes along with the statis-
tical data, data on the recording time, dura-
tion of therapy, number of days selected
for the statistics and the most important
device settings.
As an aid to decision-making for the phy-
sician, the lower window area shows what
therapeutic pressure was used 90 % of the
time and at what therapeutic pressure 90 %
of the events occurred.

will be sent to the device immediately and the counter will be reset to 0.

The Alarm Clock Function can be de-activated on some device types.

If you de-activate the Alarm Clock Function, it is no longer available in

Set Alarm Time


1. Activate the alarm clock.
2. In the Time field, mark the hour or the minute and enter the
desired value. If you wish, you can use the arrows to increase or
decrease the marked value.
3. Set the snooze time in the selection box Slumber. You can select The snooze time (Slumber)

System Messages
If data are transferred incorrectly or incompletely over the serial inter-
face, TRENDset will issue a system message.
If a system message from 1 to 255 is issued, the device has regis-
tered the fault and exported it. For values seen on the following table,
TRENDset has only registered the fault.
