Grade 1 pupils, good morning! Alright so for today, we have another blessing to count
because we are all here today. Lahat tayo ay nandito at nakakasama muli para matuto. So, I
am your teacher for music class and I am teacher Janille. I am so happy to meet you all and
turuan na rin kayo patungkol sa music. Sino sino ba sa inyo ang mahilig sa musika?

Alright, I see then na karamihan ay mahilig o nahihilig sa musika, sino naman ang inyong
paboritong singer or composer? Alright, very good! It seems that you all are really inclined to
music, personally I love music. So I believe that we all should begin our discussion. Are you
all ready to learn?

Very good!
So let us start everything with a meaningful prayer

(prayer presentation)

Sa ngayon naman, let me know who are the present for today. So when I call your name,
itaas ang kamay and say present.
—------------------------------------

Alright, to officially start our lesson, gusto ko munang ang inyong napag aralan sa nakaraan
na talakayan. Grade 1 pupils, what have you learned yesterday?

very good! Last meeting, we discussed the song lyrics or components to make a music from
which words are rhyming with another. These rhyming words create such wonderful
melodies, isn’t it? For example, rock and block, mic and spike, make and take, favor and
fever and so on.

Who can give me more rhyming words?

(recites)
Alright, with all that said, we also sang a nursery song yesterday right?
- what song did we sang?
Yes very good it is the song hickory, dickory dock. So once again, can we sing this song
together and then let us trace what words rhymes to each other.

(sings)
- so what rhyming words can you find in the song hickory dickory dock?
Very good! Give yourself a 5 claps because you are all very good!
Rhyming words are "hickory dickory dock” and the word clock and tock

So for our discussion today, it presents the topic of rhythm. And with that, I want you to
reflect on another song–yes, with much appreciation into music, let us hear this popular
nursery song twinkle twinkle little star. Every one, eyes on the presentation and let us watch
twinkle twinkle little star
- But for this time, I want you to watch it, sing along with it and clap your hands for
every syllable of the lyrics. For example, when we are singing it, “twinkle twinkle little
star” and then you clap like this (demonstrate)

Alright, are you all ready?

Very good! Naenjoy ba ng lahat ang pagkanta nito nang nilalapatan ng indak or with
additional actions like clapping gaya ng ginawa natin?
- Mahusay! Okay, uulitin ulit natin ito para mas maenjoy ng bawat isa

(replay and repeat singing)

So with our activity, sa ating pagkanta ng twinkle twinkle little star with clapping, we are
actually having the concept of rhythm–by clapping we are going through the rhythm of the
song and para maenjoy di natin
So kapag nakakarinig tayo ng mga kanta, hindi natin namamalayan na nagkakaroon tayo ng
interaction with music gaya ng pagpalakpak, pagsway, pagsabay sa awitin, pagsnap ng mga
fingers or even stomping of our feet and this creates to follow us the rhythm of the music.

So with the relevance of this, we will now proceed to finally discuss rhythm.

It says her that rhythm is the flow of the movement of sounds and silence. Sa filipino, ang
rhythm ay tinatawag na ritmo at base dito, ito ay ang paggalaw ng tunog at pahinga
- Uulitin ko, ano ang rhythm sa Filipino?
- Very good, ang rhythm at ritmo sa wikang Filipino

In addition, mayroon pang ibang information encompassing the idea of rhythm, rhythm is a
steady beat divided into measures and itong mga measures na ito ay madidiscuss natin
mamaya. While, steady beat, itinuturing itong isa sa mga basic and fundamental na
konsepto sa musika dahil maaaring ito ang makapagpabago sa anyo ng musika. Pwede ito
maging steady or plain lamang, pwede ring maulit ulit sa kanta at iba pa.

So itong picture na ito ang sinasabi ko sa inyo na measurement ng rhythm as steady beat.
Pinapakita ng picture na ito ang rhythmic pattern specifically the 2/4 kasi yun yung
nakalagay dito for time signature. So the quarter note has 1 beat value while 8th note has ½
beat. So for a while, may I as everyone to take a moment to observe in your surroundings
para makita or maappreciate natin itong ritmo na ating pinag uusapan

(3 mins for observation then proceed for sharing of pupils)

- So what rhythms were you able to witness?
- Very good! All around us, matatagpuan talaga natin ang ibat ibang rhythms

For rhythm, maaari natin itong matagpuan sa araw araw natin–hindi nga natin namamalayan
na nagc-create na tayo ng rhythm or nasa paligid lang natin ito
So the examples of rhythms are like the clock, as it ticks; the swaying of trees na napaka
malumanay lamang ng tunog; pati na rin ang movement ng waves kung tayo at nasa dagat;
maging ang paraan ng pananalita ng bawat isa sa atin lalo na ako ngayon dahil sa aking
pagtuturo, ang ating puso, mayroon ding ritmo dahil tayo ay may heartbeat. Actually,
makukuha nga sa pangalan mismo “heartbeat” “beat” to have rhythm and last example as
indicated is footsteps like stomping for instance.

So with the idea of rhythms, nakasaad dito na rhythms has a rhythmic pattern too and in the
picture we will see a rhythmic symbol.
When rhythmic pattern is persistently repeated, is is called rhythmic ostinato
So based on the definition of rhythmic ostinato, it is a phrase that repeats in the same
musical voice frequently in the same pitch. Ito yung mga words with the same pitch na palagi
or madalas na maulit and we have examples such as ice, ice baby. With this phrase, ano
yung nauulit na word?
- Very good nauulit yung ice ice
How about the second? I really, really, really, really like you
- Yes, for multiple times naulit yung phrase na really all throughout the song
Next example, baby baby oh, there is repetition of the word baby
So, with the provided examples, sana ay nalaman niyo kung ano yung concept ng ostinato
Moving on with sound and silence, this is combination of two pero aalamin natin kung ano
yung pinagkaiba ng dalawa. For the sound, when a make la-la-la-la this is sound because
sound is the noise or music itself while for silence (shhhh) it means being quiet so it is a
pause of pahinga na nagaganap for some time. In addition, silence is synonymous with rest.

So last but not the least, we have a steady beat. Steady beat is also known as the pulse.
Steady beat is a consistent beat that counts for every measure of each song. So “consistent”
means hindi nagbabago halimbawa boom boom yung naging beat, it means that all
throughout, hanggang matapos, it will be used as beat. Another example is clap clap, tik-tok,
the modals of 1 and 2, and 3 and 4

- So that is all for the contents of our topic. At this point, let me know if you truly
learned something, so let us have an activity.
So with the music instruments available, I will group you into 3 groups and each group ay
mayroong task
- For group 1, you are assigned to do a steady beat using drums
- For group 2, you will make an ostinato while using nails
- And for last group, group 3, you will be making silence and sound through coconut
shells.
Alright, so every one, are we clear? Any questions? In addition, I will give you 10 minutes
para makaprepare and let’s have presentation right after

- So now, kayo mismo ay naging mapamaraan para gawin yung mga concepts ng
rhythms na napag aralan natin. So what if there is no sound and silence, what do you
think might happen?
- How about when there is no beat, what will music looks like?
- As for ostinato, how are we going to use ostinato when we want to emphasize
something?
- Lastly, what do you think is the main difference of sound and silence?

Very good! Because encompassing of all what we have learned, we tackled rhythm as a
music’s pattern in time. It is the flow or movement of sounds and silence
How about ostinato, how can you describe it?
- Very well said! It is the repetition of phrase in the same musical voice in the same
pitch
Finally for steady beat, what it is and give me an example
- Good job!
We have these 3 ideas in music rhythm

So at the final point of our lesson today, just want to say it again for the last time (read slide
18)

For now, as much as I know that you all are able to learn the best, I want to test your
understanding and kung natuto ba talaga kayo. So we will be having a short quiz about our
topic
- Kindly bring out your activity notebook and answer it there
Para sa instruction, let me just read it. In your notebook, write TRUE is the statement is
correct and FALSE if it is wrong. Once again, isusulat ang word na true kung sa tingin niyo
ang binasa kong sentence ay tama base sa napag aralan natin at kung hindi naman, isulat
ng salita na false
- Naintindihan ba ng lahat? magaling!
So let us proceed with number 1
- (read)

And finally before I’ll dismiss you, I will be giving you an assignment which will be passed
next meeting. So for your assignmen, kopyahin niyo nalang ang nakaflash sa screen.
- Assignment: pick one of your favorite song and give its rhythm. Isa lang ha, isang
kanta lang na inyong pinaka paborito at alamin kung ano ang ritmo nito base sa ating
napag aralan

Sa muli mga mag aaral ng ika-1 na baitang, maraming salamat. Good bye and have a happy
day!
